Questions for ladies that have GD?

I know nothing about this but now there are a few questions that are really bothering me - they may sound ridiculous so I apologize in advance -

Do you have to test your sugar levels on your own - like give yourself a finger prick test?

Do you have to inject yourself with insulin?

Do you ahve to have a c-section?

Re: Questions for ladies that have GD?

I do not have GD but I can answer some of those questions.

Yes you do usually have to test your sugar yourself with a monitor.

No you don't necessarily need injections - some people do but some can control it with diet and/or some pills. I think the injections are the last thing they try depending on how bad you fail.

No you do not have to absolutely have a c-section - some people do b.c GD can produce a larger baby which can cause shoulder dystorcia but they will monitor the baby's size. Many people have normal vaginal deliveries with GD.

I just saw your post about failing the one hour- if it makes you feel better I failed mine with a bad number but passed my 3 hour with such great numbers they have no idea how I possibly failed my one hour.

Sorry to be clueless but testing yourself with a monitor - does that mean drawing your own blood?

Do you have to test your sugar levels on your own - like give yourself a finger prick test? YES THE DOC USUALLY GIVES YOU A SCRIPT FOR A METER AND YOU DO IT IN THE AM AND AFTER MEALS HOW MANY TIMES A DAY WILL DEPEND ON YOUR DOC AND YOUR SITUATION

Do you have to inject yourself with insulin? ONLY IF YOU REQUIRE IT. i HAVE GD AND IT IS CONTROLLED WITH DIET

Do you ahve to have a c-section?

They give you a small hand held monitor and you do a finger prick then put a drop of blood on a little stick that goes into a monitor you do not have to deal with big needles or anything like that.

This is what my friend did when she had GD - hers was totally controlled by diet BTW.

Re: Questions for ladies that have GD?

I had GD with my 1st pergnancy but woohoo not with this one. So I'll answer based on 1st pregnancy.

Do you have to test your sugar levels on your own - like give yourself a finger prick test? yes - 4 times a day. wakeup and then after an hour after each main meal. You have this piercin tool for the finger prick and squeeze blood onto a strip that goes into this small monitor that tells you the sugar levels. It was so hard for me to do the first few times but after a few - you are a pro.

Do you have to inject yourself with insulin? no - mine was controlled by diet alone

Do you ahve to have a c-section? nope, went into labor on my own on 1st day of my 37th week...water broke..needed pitocin though to get things moving along since I wasn't dilated when my water broke but had to be in hospital for strep B antibiotics

Re: Questions for ladies that have GD?

I dont have GD with this pregnancy..YET..

In the past YES...

I always tested my own blood sugar..all it was was a finger prick..you get a rx from your doctor for your meter and your testing strips..insurance covers the cost..

I never had to resort to insulin or pills..my GD was controlled solely by diet alone..For this pregnancy I have put myself, at my doctors approval, on the same diet I had with my previous pregnancies.

I have had only natural child birth..my eldest daughter was 4 weeks early and was 8lbs.
