Question RE: Redheads
I can never remember...
Which side does a baby get the "redhead" gene from?
I thought it was the Mother's Mother.
Anyone??

My dad got his red hair from his dads family.
I got my red hair from my dad.
My son got my red hair.
So in our case, it went both ways!

DH's dads brother has red hair...

MY husband was a red head when he was little. He got it from his Mom. We were hoping for a red head. We got blondes.

Love it!!
I was asking b/c my mom has reddish hair, her mom had red hair and my brother has auburn hair in his beard. I just didn't want our kid to come out with reddish hair and DH question paternity!!
I had a talk w/ him last night about this!!

My mother's side had two cousins who were redheads. No redheads whatsoever on my husband's side. I had slightish red hair when I was a baby. So I'm going to go with the Mom's Mom's side...

Thank you! The entire time I was pregnant, my husband kept saying "It'd better come out with light hair" (he was blonde and I'm dark blonde/brown hair). I kept saying "You know, he/she could come out with red hair...". I think I secretly wished a redhead on myself

I am CONVINCED we are having a redheaded child.
DH's father was a redhead, his sisters are redheads, DH's facial hair is red.
On my side my grandfather was a redhead and I have red highlights in my hair.
If it is from the mother's mother, then that wouldn't be true. We shall see.

I would LOVE to have a little redheaded girl. My mom is 100% Irish and has red hair and freckles. My DH says NO WAY when I say this but I know she would be adorable and daddy's little girl..We'll see what we get. I have blond hair and blue eyes and my DH has light brown hair and hazel eyes.

You must both have the redhead Gene on both sides somewhere down the family tree. My hubby was a redhead and knows all there is to know about it. He so didn't want a redhead - I love them obviouly but he was petrified. We both have the redhead gene (obviously he does) and I do as well.

I was sure that my dd would be born with red hair..at the very least, reddish blonde hair. My mom has red hair..my dad had red hair when he had hair LOL
My sister is a redhead, and my brother is too. My husband was platinum blonde when he was really little and so was I with red highlights...
My daughter...was born with...black hair! It was the biggest surprise EVER! It has lightened a lot and underneath looks like it may be coming in a little reddish but nothing like my family so who knows??

I only have hints of red in my hair, but so does my mother, sister and DS
My friends from HS had a boy and the father had red hair (he doesn't have much anymore), the mother has dark brown and their son has red.

Both our mom's are redhead's as are their mom's. DH has red facial hair - but with the exception of his one auburn-haired sister, everyone has black/brown hair.
So based on my experience I would say it's the mom's mom's side.
