Question please be honest
How bad are the PIO shots?
My last IVF was at Columbia and we used suppositories but if we go with RMA they do PIO. Are they really that bad....be honest. My co-worker did them with her IVF and she said it was brutal.

Re: Question please be honest
You want me to be honest? When starting my IVF journey I was terrified of PIO shots so I had RE precribe me the suppositories. After my last IVF where it would appear that my body was not absorbing the endometrium, they told me that I needed to start doing the shots. After having done both, I would have to say I should have done the shots from the start. I HATED the suppositories...dont get me started with the white clumpy stuff and the pantyliners and feeling like I was oooozing all day One shot in the butt by my husband at night was much better IMHO. Aside from the experimental first shot where my DH made me bleed like a stuck pig the shots were a breeze. I would hold the vial in my hand for about ten minutes to warm it up. He'd give me the shot, I'd massage the area for about 45 seconds and then sit on a heating pad for about 1/2 hour. My butt was always a little sore but it beat the heck out of the "white horse tablets from H ELL."

ITA! My worst experience with those stupid suppositories was when I was at a fair and had to get one up there while I was in a porta potty! That was fun. I was so happy when I was switched to the shots. Yes, the needle is scary but one shot a day is so much better then 4 suppositories a day!!!

Re: Question please be honest
I am the worlds biggest wimp about needles. In our orientation/injection class, I started to cry when they showed us the PIO syringe/needle. I had to leave the room.
IMHO - There was nothing to it! DH was a pro at giving them to me..truth be told I think he enjoyed it a little too much! The stim injections IMO were worse than the PIO. I felt those more than I felt the PIO injection, it did not hurt at all!

Re: Question please be honest
Thanks Ladies. I feel better.
The trigger shot wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but at the same time I only did it once so I wasn't so sure about doing one every day. I feel better now.

Re: Question please be honest
I agree with the above posters....I was TERRIFIED when I saw the size of the needles, and cried every time DH had to do it. He even felt so bad as well. After awhile you will get used to it. It will not be so bad. Just make sure you warm the area prior to injecting it.

Re: Question please be honest
I agree w/ the PPs- I am a HUGE baby when it comes to needles... and the PIO ones were no exception. The day we found out we'd have to switch ALL of my shots (stimming too) to IM I cried hysterically in the middle of my favorite restaurant. NO ONE could console me... but you know what- they're really NO big deal!!! I PROMISE!

Re: Question please be honest
I don't really like needles but after going through IVF I am starting to get used to it. Throughout the whole process I was scared just thinking abouot the PIO shots. The first night my husband did it fast and it didn't hurt. The anticipation is actually worse. By the 3rd night I started icing the area and I never even felt the needle go in or come out. They are worth it.

Re: Question please be honest
I too am a wimp when it comes to needles. I was REALLY nervous when it came time to start the IM shots.
To be honest....they are not bad at all. When you (or DH) is injecting them you will not even feel it. Maybe a tiny pinch. After a while, yes your upper butt is going to be sore, maybe even bruised with lumps. It really isn't that bad though. I was told by my nurse that if you don't use ice for the injections that it actually decreases the lumps from forming. Since I gave up the ice it actually is better. I also sit on a heating pad for about 20 minutes after the injection.

Re: Question please be honest
As the other posters have said - they really are not a big deal at all ! ...My DH used to cringe when he gave it to me and couldnt understand how it didnt hurt me and I can understand why, that needle is very intimidating !...But in all honesty , there were times where I didnt hardly know he put it in (sounds unbeleivable I know) ...Yes, your tush will start to get a liitle sore after doing it for a few weeks ( I didnt even start to get sore until long after my BFP, so thats how long it took me) but really, its not bad at all
