Question for working moms who pump
How many times during the day do you pump?
I am gone for 9 hours a day. I don't know how many times per day I should pump. I want to try to maintain my supply as much as possible.
How would I pump while working if I wanted to keep my supply as is or even increase my supply?
Thanks!

Re: Question for working moms who pump
I pumped five times a day to maintain my supply and contribute to my stash (before DS woke up, three times at work, and once before bed)

Re: Question for working moms who pump
I don't know what I am going to end up doing ... I will be away for TWELVE hours (which includes a total of 3-4 hours commuting time).

Right now I pump before DS gets up, once at work and once before bed. I guess I should try to pump at least one more time if not 2x at work. Thanks.

Re: Question for working moms who pump
I wake up at 6am.. nurse Nurse again at 8am
I get to work at 8:30 and leave at 3:30. I pump 2 times..
For nine hours, I would think 3 times should do it.

How long is your work day? I would def. try to get in 2 sessions if possible. While I don't think 5 was necessary, I think it really helped me maintain and increase my supply. At the height of nursing, I had 650oz + in my stash. I was able to stop pumping by his first birthday and continued to nurse until he was 14 months. Also, the stash came in handy when I got PG again and my supply decrease dramatically. I actually still have a few bags of milk in my freezer that I give him from time to time when he's sick (although I should ck the expiration dates of those now )
Good luck

Re: Question for working moms who pump
I'm lucky if I get one pumping session in at work. I pump right before I go to work and as soon as I get home.
After being back at work for 2 months, my milk supply has dropped significantly. DS still gets mostly breastmilk but we are slowly going to wean him off.

Re: Question for working moms who pump
Best thing you can do is to pump at least the amount your DC eats while you are away. DD eats 3x while I am at work so I pump 3x. I have also added a before I go to bed pump since my supply has started to drop a little after being back to work for 3 months. Don't make yourself crazy about it. Stress has an effect on your supply as well.

My work day is 7hours. But I am away from the house about 8 hours. So you think I should pump 2x at work?
I currently pump once in the morning before I wake up and DH uses that for DS's morning feeding. Then I have been pumping 1x at work.

I have been doing what you are doing. Is your supply ok?
BTW, this morning I noticed I got AF. That may have contributed to my supply decreasing but I don't know.

DS eats 2x while I am at work. Once with BM that I pump when I wake up and leave at home. And I pump 1x at work. I could try to pump another time at work but I could only do it at 945 and then the only time I could pump the second time would be between 12-1230 and then I am home BFing by 3.
I am trying to stay relaxed.

BTW, this morning I noticed I got AF. That may have contributed to my supply decreasing but I don't know.
This def. was an issue for me. I would have a supply dip about 4 days before AF arrived. Usually, by the 2nd day of AF, it went back up. I tried to drink more water/eat more oatmeal before AF to maintain my supply.

My supply is fine. I started pumping when DS was 3 days old and I think that helped. I barely got anything back then but freezed & stored whatever I got. I still haven't gotten AF yet.
What time do you wake up? I am so shot getting up at 4:45am!!! Good Luck!
