Question for working Moms
Did your kids go straight from daycare to Kindergarten? I'm having like a stress attack because my daughter won't be doing an official "2's" preschool program.
She is in an in-home daycare and they do circle time and days of the week and all of that stuff so I don't know why I'm so worked up.
If your child went straight from daycare to kindergarten did you feel like they were prepared?
Thanks!!!

Question for working Moms
Yes - my kids went straight from daycare to kindergarten. They are in a center program though so it has preschool as well.
DS 1 was more than prepared and DS 2 will be even more prepared than DS 1.
ETA: DS 1 also did UPK at a local preschool, on top of the daycare program (he just missed the cut off and was bummed his friends were headed to school and he wasn't and we got the spot). He learned more at daycare than at the local preschool.

Re: Question for working Moms
I put my DS in UPK through the district. It is M-F 8:30 to 11:00. He still goes to daycare afterwards where he also is in the pre k room.

Question for working Moms
My ds is in a large daycare but they have a preK program.
He is 100% ready for K right now I feel. His daycare really teaches them and gets them ready. I just went to K parent orientation and they gave us a list of things the kids should be able to do and my ds should be fine.

Question for working Moms
Can anyone who's child was in an in-home daycare chime in? They are great and she knows letters, numbers and does circle time and craft time and all that stuff - but I worry that she's in with mixed ages. There are 2-3 other kids that are close in age to her now though.

Re: Question for working Moms
My daughter is starting K in September and we decided to keep her in her current in-home daycare until she starts K. I considered pulling her out to do a pre-k program, but I have a younger one in the same daycare and it is just easier for me to have both in one place. I am not worried about her being prepared AT ALL. They work with her daily on letters, math, writing, sight words, colors. Everything. She is already working in a 1st grade work book after finishing her Pre-K and K workbooks. She knows fractions and math. She blows my mind every day. I think if the daycare is doing enough to get them to know all their letters and numbers, you'll be fine keeping your child in daycare.
ETA: She is in an in-home with 12 full time kids of mixed ages. There are 2 other kids her age and then the rest are younger, my other daughter is the youngest at 15 months.

Question for working Moms
My DD is in Kindergarten and went straight from an in-home daycare to Kindergarten without any issue.
My daycare is licensed, insured and teaches a Pre-K curriculum.
My DD was ready for Kindergarten and her teacher has told me many times how smart and prepared she was/is.

Re: Question for working Moms
DD was in a Tutor Time. She did the Pre K program that Tutor Time offered. So part of her day that last year was Pre K class and the other part was daycare until I picked her up.
I found their Pre K program to be excellent and she went to K and excelled.
That was one of the reasons I chose that daycare center- they had a very good Pre K program that got them used to learning in more of a "classroom" type setting with some homework, etc

Thank you!!!! I really needed this. I am pregnant and am planning to have them both in the same place but i was struggling with guilt over not sending my daughter to a "real" preschool. A big center is not an option for us since we had a horrible experience at a tutor time recently.
She is constantly coming out with things that I know she isn't learning from us at home - (the pledge of allegiance!?...at 20 months lol) and I know they have a structured day. I feel much better after reading your response.

Just stay on them if you feel your daughter isn't getting what she needs. But I really thought long and hard about my decision and I truly believe it was the best decision to keep her where she is now. She LOVES where she is and she really is thriving.
Anyone I have talked to about the UPK program (I could have gotten it for free bc I live in Queens) has been pretty disappointed in the program.

Re: Question for working Moms
We had a sitter and my son would go to her home with some other kids, it wasn't an in home daycare. He went to nursery school when he got older for 3 mornings, but it want a school that didn't give HW and there wasn't a curriculum. He is doing great in K and is not struggling! I truly believe it depends on the child, not the "education " they may or may not have received at 2, 3, and 4!
