Question for those who took the 3 hour
Were you told that when you fasted you couldn't even have any water??
I am supposed to start fasting all food and drink starting at 8pm. Tomorrow I take the drink at 8am and then they are going to draw my blood every half hour for the next 3 hours. So that turns out to be a total of 15 hours with no water. This sounds insane to me. Especially since when I took the 1 hour and fasted for only 8 hours, I was so dehydrated it took 20 minutes to get blood from me (I have the black and blues on my arms and hands to prove it).
I called my Dr. office to confirm that this is what they wanted, and the nurse spoke with him and he said nothing to drink at all. I called the lab and asked them and they said they usually don't tell patients that, but if my dr is telling me that, then it is his orders and I should follow them.
Anyone else??

I didn't have that told to me when I went for the 3-hour. That's all I drank for the evening before the test and that morning to take pills and whatnot.

Re: Question for those who took the 3 hour
Yep, for me it was no water after midnight. It really wasn't as awful as I thought it would be though!
Good luck
ETA: When I had my second hour blood drawn I asked the nurse if I could drink and she said no

Re: Question for those who took the 3 hour
My OB said no water but when I got to the lab they told I should have been drinking water and let me have some before the drink. After you start the drink you are not allowed to have anything.

Re: Question for those who took the 3 hour
They shouldn't be taking blood every half hour, are you sure that's what they said? It's should be every hour.
My doc didn't give me any instructions. I went by what I read on here...stopped drinking around 9pm the night before. I was thirsty during the test, especially because I wanted to get the orange flavor out of my mouth. You'll be fine...

I have misheard her. I guess I just have to get through it. Im just worried that they will have trouble drawing the blood like last time. My hand is still swollen from it.

The person drawing the blood should alternate arms/veins. That's what they did with me. It really isn't that bad, just try your best to hold down that liquid bc if u throw up u have to go another day. The worst of it for me was sitting around for 3 hours.

Re: Question for those who took the 3 hour
I was allowed to drink water up until the first blood draw at 7am. My fast started at 7pm the night before.
I passed the 3 hour with no problem.
eta - they will draw your blood a total of 4 times. Once when you get there. Then you drink the drink (I had 5 minutes to drink it). Wait 1 hour, blood. Wait 1 hour, blood. Wait 1 hour, blood and go home.
They did 2 blood draws in each arm. Wasn't bad at all. The first hour after drinking the glucose was the hardest because it did make me a little nauseous.
