Question for those who have done a kitchen renovation
What percentage of the total cost of the renovation would you say you spent on cabinets? Are the cabinets typically the bulk of the cost?
We got a quote on cabinets today for my dream kitchen and I'm just anxious to see how much of the budget is usually allotted for cabinets.

Re: Question for those who have done a kitchen renovation
We bought our cabinets from Home Depot and then my DH dressed them up to look like custom cabinets. We probably spent about $2000 altogether for the cabinets. I would say that the cabinets are the bulk of the project.
Fortunately my DH is a contractor so we didn't have to pay for labor other than the tile floor.

Re: Question for those who have done a kitchen renovation
I am re-doing the kitchen in our new house. We bought our cabinets from Consumers and The appliances ended up being about the same amount of money. We are installing them ourselves though so that saved us a ton of $$$

I would say that the cabinets are the bulk of the cost, then labor, then counter tops, then appliances. Something like that. GL!

I am curious why you would suggest custom for a dream kitchen?
I am doing a total kitchen re-design so i am looking for ideas. Do you have any recommendations as to where to look?
To answer the OP's question... if you just want to count materials, it's probably 70% cabinets, 30% countertops (assuming granite).

I have dead space in my kitchen b/c of my layout and where my kitchen window is. Since stock cabinets only come in certain sizes we needed to use filler pieces.
Also - on our island - we have two raised panels on either side - they're pressboard or plywood and only the front is finished so we have about 1/4 inch all around the panel that is unfinished. The sides... I wish I had a picture. It's pathetic. My only option is to color in the plywood with a stain pen.
Here are pics of the dead spaces:
Upper cabinet - a custom cabinet would have went closer to the side cabinet - I feel like having a bigger cabinet would be less noticeable than dead space with very visible seams (I wish I had a close-up):
Lower cabinet - a custom builder would have made a spice rack pull-out that would fit - we were short 1/2 inch - I understand that mechanisms need a certain space but a custom builder would have thought of something - even a decorative panel maybe (try doing that with Consumers):

I would try Elegance in Wood in Deer Park - I used to work across the street from his shop and he did beautiful work.
I would also get a quote from Sassyz something or other - her father. He's a vendor on this site.
Because of our island (it alone was $9K AND our contractor had to build the second tier) - we spent $18K alone on cabinets. I definitely would have went for a simpler but custom kitchen. I don't have a large kitchen either. I would have made it work for our budget.
My mother went custom - beautiful, beautiful - for $20K - and her cabinets are much more intricate than mine - she has braiding detail, raised panels, glass panel doors with finished shelves inside those glass panel doors!!!!!! Not to mention, her kitchen is soooooooo much larger than mine. I wouldn't recommend her guy though... Other issues unrelated to his craftsmanship.

My mother is having custom cabinets done from Dyanimic Kitchens (Sassyz father). They were very comparable to the prices from Home Depot/Lowes and much better quality.

Re: Question for those who have done a kitchen renovation
I got mine at Consumers (Kraftmaid) and they were about 13-14k, inlcluding an island. Cherry wood, full overlay, crown molding, pull out drawers, soft close, under cabinet molding, etc.) I love them!! Total reno including appliances was 40k.

Re: Question for those who have done a kitchen renovation
AVE1024 - check out Sunrise Kitchens and Baths - Danielle and I are getting our Maple cabinets from there for under $7k and we are also getting granite through them for under $3000.
If you go there, it is a very small store front. Ask for Deanna. We dealt with her and she is very helpful. They have a few kitchens on display.
They are located:

2596 Sunrise Hwy, Bellmore, NY 11710

Thanks for the shout out for my Dad- he is a vendor on here.. I am usually there to help out- but just had a baby- so if you can't reach him (he does installs a lot during the week) you can always reach me and I'll call him on the road!
If you look up his advert on this site, you'll see he's running a special! Free installation & contractors pricing on all appliances.

Re: Question for those who have done a kitchen renovation
We spent about 30,000 grand for an entire gut and remodel including electric and plumbing. Our cabinets were 1/3 the cost of the remodel. We got some extras as far as pull outs and stuff goes (full overlaym crown, light moulding). Our cabinets are also cherry wood.

Same goes for us, we spent about $30K and cabinets were about $11K - but they were maple with a chestnut stain. We had some pull outs, molding on top and bottom of cabinets etc
I found the cabinets to be the priciest, then the labor, then appliances, counter tops, flooring etc

Sassyz father did my kitchen and it came out beautiful. Someone bumped the post on here. We finally painted the kitchen door, front door, got roller shades for the windows and bought a new fridge. We just need to paint the window casings and we're done! I like the custom kitchen because no space is wasted and you get exactly what you want.
