Question for teachers
What is your maternity policy? I know most of us have to use our sick days then opt for the 12 week FMLA... but how long can you be out and have your job waiting for you? 1 year per baby 2 per baby? Less or more? I realize this is without pay or benefits usually, just wondering how long your job will hold your position for you?

Re: Question for teachers
I am not tenured and in the NYC public school system you get 6 weeks paid/unpaid (paid if you use your sick days, unpaid if you don't) and then you can take the 3 months FMLA.

Re: Question for teachers
my school we have 8 weeks paid, and you can use up to 40 sick days. You are allowed 2 years per child. After 12 weeks, you have to take the FMLA

Re: Question for teachers
In NYC, you can use or borrow sick days or take the FMLA. You can also take up to five years of unpaid leave and get your job back.

Re: Question for teachers
In my district, as you said sick days FMLA. You may not come back if your FMLA would be up the last 2 weeks of June. Also, I didn't know this until I was PG, since my daughter was due in April my FMLA would not be up until October because there is not place for you to work July and August so your FMLA goes into suspension and no time is deducted for those months. Our district allows you to take 1 year but you may take 2 at the discretion of the district.

Re: Question for teachers
With tenure, in a NJ public school, they will hold the position for two full school years. I will only be taking one semester off though.
