Question for runners
Do you feel like running has helped you lose/ maintain your weight? I'm an avid exerciser but i just can't seem to drop any weight. I'm thinking about adding a daily running regimen to my routine but I just wanted to get your feedback. I have knee problems so I'm a little hesitant but i have to do something. I've tried everything!

Re: Question for runners
I feel like running keeps me lean/helps me maintain what I have. I recently incorporated resistance training to my routine and I have noticed that my body has tightened and I look more toned. I even lost a 1-2 pounds.
I used to only run - I would run about 15-18 miles a week. I wouldn't gain/lose any weight. As soon as I added strength training, I saw results.

Re: Question for runners
Running definaly keeps me in shape. However, my trainer has me on a high carb/protein diet because I work out ALOT (I dont just run, I do strength training, cross training, etc). So I try to eat enough to fuel my workouts and recover. Overall though, since I started running I lost about 5lbs.

Re: Question for runners
yes definitely. it is my main exercise as i don't have time to do much else. however, i used to run and think i had an excuse to eat like a crazy woman. while it's true i am hungrier and eat a bit more when i am doing high weekly mileage, i don't eat like i used to and find that the running is really helping me fit in my smaller clothes.

Re: Question for runners
running lets me eat what I like and not be 200 pounds.
but since I started my current marathon training I gained 3 pounds. two training ago I gained 10!!
but I agree with PP - I don't jiggle much - even with the extra pounds on me.

Re: Question for runners
At this point, it is helping me maintain, but I really have little to lose. I agree with the PPs who said it tightens everything up. I have more or less been running since HS, but for the times when I slack off, an extra 5 lbs always creep back on.

Re: Question for runners
I started running because I'm not ready to give up my snacks/ food and prob will never be ready. I'm going on over 3yrs of running and had lost more weight then I even planned on when I started, however now I maintain. But I also don't run as much as I did. I run 4-5 days a wk (mostly 4) if I were to stay at 5 maybe I would lose more but I just don't have the time always and I'm comfy with myself now. I do feel running makes me feel better about myself because I do feel much more toner especially in the butt area I have had to take time off in the past from injuries and even though I didn't gain weight I did not feel as good as when I ran.

Re: Question for runners
I'm not a runner per say, but when I quit my gym membership, I started to jog/walk for cardio and found that it was the best bang for my buck, I can do a 30 min workout and feel good about it and to answer your question, YES it was the first time I really shedded pounds and looked leaner instead of bulky (even after 2 yrs of going to the gym, I lost more weight/looked leaner after just jogging!).
I also do strength/resistance/circuit/interval training and pilates when I can because I want to be toned and gain muscle to support bones. I knew some runners who were too lean IMO (had a flat butt LOL) and I want to be toned and firm with some curves and shape. I'm not saying this is how all runners are, just the couple that I know that told me all they do is run.

Re: Question for runners
I have heard so many gym class instructors and trainers say that running is one of the best ways to lose weight. I just wish I could run for more than a mile.

Re: Question for runners
Alright awesome. Thanks ladies!
How much would you say is a good pace to set for a daily routine.
I'm good with endurance. I haven't run for a while and I can easily run 3-5 miles no problem. Once I get past 5 miles though, that's when my knees start to act up.
Anyone have a good regimen?

Re: Question for runners
I hit a plateau with my workous so I started couch to 5k. It is awesome!! I have lost weight faster then cardio weight training. And it only takes a half hour 3 times a week. I am so happy I did it And I can now run for 25 minutes straight. A couple more weeks and I will be at 30 minutes.

Re: Question for runners
I recently started running thanks to some inspiration from one of my co-workers. My goal was to tone up, lose about 5-10 lbs and run a 5k. I have to say I am not addicted. When I started about 5 weeks ago I couldnt even run a mile w/o stopping and now I am up to 5k consistenly! I have never felt better! I worked out hard b4 more wedding almost a year ago doing cardio and weights and I never saw the results that I am seeing now w/running! I feel so good everyday! I now have a new goal... hoping to be able to run 10k w/in the next 3 months. I dont know if this is even realistic but Im gonna try. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress!!
