question for all you constipated ladies out there
have you considered taking vitamins without iron?
i am convinced that it's more the iron than the pregnancy that is making me constipated. i am not anemic, and i'm wondering if i should just try another vitamin. i'm going to run it by my doctor.
anyone have any experience with this?

I bought prune juice to combat it and can I just say EW EW YUK YUK! Prune juice is so gross tasting but I mixed it with water and forced it down for the good of my intestines.

Re: question for all you constipated ladies out there
I never took the prenatals because they made me sick - I was still constipated in my 1st trimester, but then everything moved very nicely 2nd and 3rd....

Re: question for all you constipated ladies out there
It is probably the iron. My body doesnt process Iron right which is why I have to take a stool softner with the vitamin. I use colace daily and have no problems.....There are also some pre natals with stool softners in them you can try???

i didn't even think of that! that might be a better idea than losing the iron altogether - because even though i'm not anemic at all now i have been in the past... i will look into it, cause i have to do something about this, it's driving me crazy. thanks

Re: question for all you constipated ladies out there
It's not vitamins, they may contribute to it, but the increased estrogen in your body slows down your digestive tract, and more water gets absorbed than usual when it travels down the colon.
What that means to you-CONSTIPATION!
Up the veggies, fiber and water, you need your iron whether you are anemic or not.
And take colace if needed

I read in a book that mixing pear juice and prune juice worked well- maybe the pear juice might make it taste a bit better? I am going to try this after the baby's born, since I read that constipation's a problem then too.
My prenatal has a stool softener.

My friend just told me that this is the best thing ever. I take 3 colace at night and then eat fiber one in the morning followed by my decaf latte. for me, nothing else works like that combo

Two colace every morning and lots of water. This may be tmi, but I sometimes take a break from the prenatal for a few days until things start moving again. . . . .

Plus the fact that your intestines used to have all this room and now they are squished up.

Re: question for all you constipated ladies out there
I wish I could but I am anemic and have to take my prenatal that has iron plus 2 other high dose iron supplements a day. I try to eat a lot of fiber, drink lots of water and if the urge to go starts I go straight into the bathroom and seize the opportunity no matter where I am.

Re: question for all you constipated ladies out there
This is a big issue for me too. I will not stop the vitamins, but unfortuately fiber rich foods are not appealing to me right now! So, I keep drinking water, taking fibercon and hoping for the best. I am in a lot of pain from the bloating. It is awful!

I took Fiber Choice chewable tablets every day! They helped so much!!!!! I never had to take Colace as long as I was eating those tablets.

I'm going to try to Fiber Choice chewables, I heard good things, I'm just worried they are chalky. Also, I highly recommend plum juice, it tastes so much better than prune juice!!! And it works

I don't find them chalky. I can eat them with no problem but hate to eat Rolaids, now those are chalky.
