Question about telling people...

Hi Preggos!Chat Icon I am so excited I get to join you ladies!!!

I just got my BFP last week and DH and I are so so thrilled we want to tell the world lol....soo here's the first of many questions I'm sure I'll have...

When did you start telling people? We told both sets of parents last night and it was so much fun surprising them.

We have the opportunity to tell a bunch of family members in person, but it's before my first appointment. The family members live OOT and I really don't want to do it over the phone. I am only going to be 5 weeks..WWYD?

Re: Question about telling people...

I told many people before my first appt. I really wish that I hadn't though. I wish I had confirmed it at the appt first. It was a totally different experience telling people when we were "SURE" and I didn't realize it until later. I didn't have to make excuses like "I know it is early but. . . " It was just pure joy.

That is just my experience though.

Congratulations! Chat Icon

First off... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

As far as telling people goes, it's really up to you and your comfort level. Some people tell the world (ie: facebook) the minute they get their HPT results. Some people (more I believe) wait until they're into the second trimester.

As for what we did... well, I didn't find out I was PG until I was nearly 6 weeks already because I had been on vacation for the 10 days before. The day I got my BFP, I told DH (obviously) immediately. I mean, I went running into the bedroom with the stick lol. Chat Icon That was a Monday.

We did not tell ANYONE until I went to the doctor on Thursday and received the results of my Blood Test on Friday morning. I just wanted to be sure. Once we got those results, I told my best friend and my dad.

We waited another week (at this point I was 7 weeks) and told my mom and step father, DH's best friends (a couple), and the ILs.

At 8 weeks, we had our first OB appointment. After we saw the baby for the first time and met with the doctor, he told us that there was less than a 2% chance for complications resulting in a loss at that point and to feel good about telling anyone we wanted if we wanted.

So at 8 weeks, we told my grandfather, my brother, and some extended family we saw at a family function that weekend. At 9 weeks, we told a few co-workers of DH's we go out to dinner with often.

This weekend (just over 10 weeks) we told another friend.

Our next appointment is on 6/22 -- I'll be just about 12 weeks. Once that appointment is over, we may feel comfortable telling the world. Although, honestly, I think we may wait until we know the gender to post it on facebook.

Basically, my point in all this is... do whatever you're comfortable with. Chat Icon This is a very special time, and how you share the news is all a part of it IMHO!

Re: Question about telling people...

We just told our immediate family and best friends this weekend.

I doubt we'll be able to hold out until the first tri is over, but we will try our hardest.

Re: Question about telling people...

its definitely a hard secret to keep.

We told both sets of parents when we got the BFP. then our brothers and sisters the next week.

I am going on 9 weeks and we haven't told anyone else really.

i kinda of wished I waited to tell our parents. They want to tell the world and its so hard because we told them so early.

But I feel like once you tell 1 person, you start to tell others and before you know it, everyone knows.

It depends on how comfortable you are with telling people. I didnt mind telling our immediate families. but we are waiting to tell our friends and co workers until at least the 12 week mark or until I have my 12 week appt.
