question about poop and BF babies
DD is 10 weeks old now and for the past 2 weeks she seems to be having such a hard time moving her bowels. She only goes 1x every 2 days which is way off from the 10 times a day she used to go. Not to mention she has such a hard time going when she does. Is this normal or is there something going on?
Also, how do you know if a BF baby has diarrhea since it is so runny to begin with?

Re: question about poop and BF babies
Her tummy is probably 'graduating' w/regard to her bowel movements. I noticed a few weeks ago that DD had stopped going as much as she used to, and her stool was a lot firmer than it used to be. She will be 3 months old on the 11th....
Are you EBF'ing, or do you pump and give her a bottle sometimes?

Re: question about poop and BF babies
There shouldn't really be a reason if you are giving her all BM, but speak with her ped.... He may ok u adding in a teaspoon of prune or pear juice into one of her bottles to help her stool loosen up!
But I really wouldn't be too concerned with it. As far as what I understand, it's around this time that their stool begins to become harder, so they have to learn to pass it now.

Re: question about poop and BF babies
It is common for babies to change their poop routine as they get older. It sounds pretty normal as long as your child isn't in discomfort by it. Dr. Sears link

We had the same transition around that age I guess. The ped told us it was normal.

I seem to remember this too. It was actually nice for a change.
As for knowing whether it's diarrhea or not, you'd know. As much as the poop seems runny now, do you see what seems to be mustard seeds in it? When it's really the runs, it just pours out like brown water.

I posted the same thing this morning before I saw your post - I guess our babies are just going through some changes
