Question about MP3 players
Emma told me she wants an iPod for Christmas. I can't spend $$$ on her to break it. I was going to get her an MP3 player. We have iPods with iTunes... can I take the songs RIGHT from iTunes and put them onto her MP3 player or do I have to put them elsewhere on the computer to transfer them? I am looking for the simpliest way to go about this. TIA!

Re: Question about MP3 players
Songs purchased from ITunes will only work on Apple players(IPod)
What about the Ipod Shuffle? They are about $80

Re: Question about MP3 players
I've never done it but heard that there are programs that convert them.

Re: Question about MP3 players
the problem is that iTunes files are actually not mp3s--they are mp4s--and are AAC protected files. they did this on purpose so that you can not use the files on regular mp3 files--only a handful of mp3 players play AAC files----but it doesn't matter cause iTunes PROTECTS the files so you can't use them on anything but iPods.
i believe to get around it - you would have to burn the files to a cd--and then take that cd and rip the songs again and then they would be mp3s. i'm not 100% about any converting software--since the files are "protected".

Exactly. That's why I never bothered trying. They are real jerks about that.

Re: Question about MP3 players
Are you sure you cannot use Itunes for any other MP3 player? I thought I can use them for my ZUNE
According to this article Itunes and the ZUNE are compatible

Re: Question about MP3 players
I'm no expert on these things, but I know if you have itunes on your computer, it will stop you from using other MP3 Players software. itunes is too restrictive. I won't personlly buy an ipod for this reason.

Re: Question about MP3 players
Yes -- zune is one of the only mp3 players that plays AAC--but i wasn't 100% sure if it made a difference that iTunes music is AAC protected.
According to this article they say it can play them
