question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I will be 39 weeks on thursday. was by OB today. been having lower back pain and completely irregular and random contracitons since sun night. I am about 2.5-3 cm, and cervix completely soft, babys head really low. OB did a sono- said baby is measuring about 8 pounds, and fluid on low end of normal. not dangerous, wihtin normal, but lowish. said not a medical NECESSITY to induce yet, but he woudl be compfrtable getting hte kid out already. this is #3, btw. offered to induce tomorrow. If I want ot wait, he want to see me agian thurs, repeat sono. if fludi drops at all, induce. if not, I can wait, i guess, but i think he really want to induce. anyhow- i decided to wait until thurs, but now am leaning toward inducing thurs or fri. woudl you? do you think i shoudl have just done it tomorrow? also-if oyu were induced and already dilated and effaced, hwo was it? hwo long was the whole thing? did you get cervidal too, ro just pitocin? forgot to ask OB

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I was on the fence about being induced and am so glad that I did. I was 39 weeks and was 3cm dilated and 50% effaced before being induced. After getting pitocin for about 2 hours, I was at the point that I was when I went to the hospital with DS#1. I got my epidural and had a painless delivery. It went so smoothly and I was very happy I went through with it.
I was told that if you had a successful vaginal delivery with DS#1, you would be a good candidate for #2. The risks are supposedly a lot less.

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
When I went in to be induced I was 1cm dilated and about 50% effaced. I had cervidil the night before at 8pm then the dr. took it out at 8am the next day. I was 3cm dilated and they broke my water. I started pitocin around 9am and DD was here at 5:11pm. Good luck!!!

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I had to be induced because of preeclampsia. I was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. They gave me cervadil at 6:30 PM and took it out at 6:30 AM but it had done nothing At 7:30 AM, they gave me Cytotec and then broke my water at 9:30 AM. DS arrived at 1:05 PM

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I was induced on midnight with cervidil I was only about 1cm but my cervix was pretty thined out, by the next morning they took it out, broke my water and started the pitocin. I had her at 5:19 that day. For me it wasnt a bad experience at all! It sounds like it could go really fast for you! Good luck!!

I would NOT induce, but that's just me.
Hope all goes well and you have a great labor and delivery!

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I just posted a birth story that may help you. I was induced at 4cm so my dr skipped cervadil and went straight to pitocin.

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I was induced at 38 weeks. I was 3 cm and 75% effaced. I received pitocin only... started at 7am... and had emergency c-section at 4:24pm.

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
Sounds very similar to my situation. I was 39 weeks. Two days earlier baby had been moving a lot less. I had to go back to check fluid and make sure baby was moving enough. my fluid was just below normal. he said that he had planned on sending me straight to hospital, but since baby was moving well I could wait. I asked about membrane stripping. He said he thought that would essentially put me in labor given how many contractions I had been having and that I was already 2.5 cm dilated. if I waited, I had to go back every 2_3 days. I went with the membrane stripping. by the time I was home I was having intense regular contractions. Went to the hospital 7 hours later and they were 1-2 minutes apart. I thought I'd be walking in ready to push. But, I really wasn't much more dilated. Labored that way all night. started pitocin and broke my water at 915 was ready to push an hour and a half later, baby born at 10:59

Re: question about inducing if you were already dilated and effaced
I was dialted and effaced, and I was just feeling random pains at 41w.
I think baby was low, but wasn't moving past where it needed to be.
I was given pitocin, labored almost 24 hours, pushed for 2.
I don't remember having any real contractions till the end. It was just these long platues of pain and random spikes.
