Question about Gerber Graduates Lil Entrees...

At what age can you start giving these to your DC's...I am so freaking paranoid about gagging and choking I just can't stand it! How safe are these meals...are they huge chunks?

Re: Question about Gerber Graduates Lil Entrees...

I started giving them to DS at 7 or 8 months. I cut the ravioli in half, though I probably don't need to.

My kids had them from about 10 months. They started to reject them after awhile. They needed to have exactly what we were having Chat Icon

I stared at about 9 months. I also cut the ravioli in 1/2, but it is so soft, I don't think it needs to be cut.

The kids LOVE the ravioli. They also hav a turkey dinneer one, and the turkey is very small chunks, so maybe you can start with that to ease your mind. Or, they have the shells and cheese. Any one, really, but the turkey seems to be the smallest cuts.

Yeah maybe I can start with the turkey dinner he because he does like the turkey combo jars...

I saw they also have soups. I can try one of those too..Well I gotta see what the supermarkets around here have...

What do I give with these meals? would a stage 2 fruit be ok or is it not necessary...

Your son is 14 months old... I notice that you still give him mostly baby food jars, does he have a hard time with solids? Or are you just nervous?

I'm nervous cuz what he does is keeps the food in his mouth and sometimes it looks like he swallowed it yet then he gags.

He's had some solids. He does have pasta everynight. Last night he had a veggie soup that my mom made for him with chunks of zucchini and carrots that I cut up for him. He's had mashed bananas and peaches. He eats gerber puffs. He's had pancakes and chicken mcnuggets cut into the tiny (and I do mean tiny) pieces. So it's not like he hasn't had any table foods.

My biggest fear is the gagging and choking. I am super paranoid with that!

Re: Question about Gerber Graduates Lil Entrees...

well it's hard to give suggestions since it seems like he really doesn't eat that much stuff.
I guess just keep giving him small pieces of whatever you are eating...
Maybe stop mashing things up to get him more used to eating pieces of stuff...
Steamed veggies, chicken, meatloaf, meatballs, pasta, bread, eggs...
He may surprise you at what he can eat!

Re: Question about Gerber Graduates Lil Entrees...

I keep these in the house for when I have to give DD dinner by herself if we are not eating until late, or something. Otherwise, she eats what we eat.

She likes the mac & cheese (peas and carrots on the side), the turkey one, the ravioli. If I feel the pieces are too big, I cut them up, but she doesn't really have an issue chewing them and she only has 2 front teeth which she doesn't use to chew with anyway Chat Icon

and I thought she was way ahead of ME with how many foods she does give him. Im even more paranoid than she is.

It's hard to shake it, and I have to go at my own pace.

My son hates jars and turns away from them, so he's getting some table foods too, but not nearly as much as Matthew. (my son is 12m)..

To reply to the original post, gerber graduates ? they wont step foot in here for another few months, unless its my big boys eating them.

As everyone knows, I am a big believer that in order for babies to learn to swallow solids and move them to the back of their mouths, the gagging reflex is quite natural, and as I have found out, rather than just choke on something, often your child will just throw up. Giovanna, I think if you don't bite the bullet and get that kid onto solids soon, you are going to have created a kid with food issues. Just keep trying the solids, the gerber meals are good (they smell absolutely repulsive, but all baby food does) but they have lots of different textures.

Good Luck!

I was paranoid with both my previous kids. My oldest didnt hold his own cookie/bagel, etc. till he was almost TWO. I was too worried that he'd take a huge bite.

no food issues, but they never once gagged on anything. Chat Icon

Trust me, my family would hi-five you on this one Chat Icon my mom has steaks, sausages and meatballs ready to go. Chat Icon
