question about feeding table foods.

when you give your little one table foods such as fruits veggiies, pasta, chciken nuggests etc. do you just put the food on the high chair tray and they pick it up or do you feed it to them? Or does it depend on the food?

I aks bc i have been having this discussion with people all weekend and i know what i do and plan on doing but curious to get others opinions.

If it's not such a messy food like chicken nuggets, meatball, veggies etc I just put them on the tray, if it's soup or something I feed it to him

She won't let us feed her, so we put it on a plate on her tray. I am not a fan of just putting it on her tray, I need to put it on a plate first, I am neurotic like that. She loves picking it up and eating it. I tried to feed her oatmeal yesterday and she protested so much, I just gave her the bowl and spoon and surprisingly, she got some in her mouth!
