Question about different towns
I am new to this board and was wondering if anyone can help me. We are looking to buy in Amityville, Copaigue, or Lindenhurst. The main reason is because I commute into the city and these are only about an hour train ride or less.
Anyway can anyone give me any insight on these towns. Good parts, bad parts, the school districts?
Thank you!

Re: Question about different towns
I live in Lindenhurst and we are in the Daniel School District. It's a good district. We love Lindenhurst. We live on the border of Lindenhurst and West Babylon. Lindy has a lot to offer, house prices aren't too bad, nice village area. But you do pay more to live in the village. So you have the Village tax, plus the Town of Babylon tax. Hope that helps.

Re: Question about different towns
my vote lindenhurst. i lived here most of my life and we just purchased a house in the village. You have a pretty good town with hair salon's, coffee house, restaurants, bars (lots of bars), food shopping everything within walking distance depending on where you are. Train is always on time and they have express service trains from Lindy station (babylong/lindy/amityville, then skip until rockville center). They have lots of events that make it feel townie. Also prices are not that bad and great if you are buying a fixer upper.
Amityville if your south of montauk it is best, just north of it is nice as well until you hit the train tracks. SD is not bad.
Copiague south of montauk or just north of it, SD is a bit iffy. Taxes are low, we were looking there but found a house in lindenhurst for our budget.

Re: Question about different towns
I vote Lindenhurst too. We have lived in Lindehurst for 2 years and bought a house in Farmingdale so we are moving soon but our home search was mainly in Lindenhurst and the surrounding area. Personally I didnt want Copaigue or Amityville because of the schools. While there are nice areas in both towns the schools are rated pretty low.

Lindenhurst... I've heard school districts in Amityville and Copaigue aren't that great. I used to work on the Massapequa/Amityville border and parts were sketchy.

Re: Question about different towns
Lindy, no doubt. i know about the elementary school, but that's it. it was good... the pre-k school - grace methodist church ROCKS! i had my kids in two different pre-ks, and that one by far is better than the others. they actually learn there (you don't have to live in lindy to send them there, just thought i'd mention that).
but, everything that everyone said is true. it has a lot to offer. especially all the close supermarkets. i coupon so i often went to pathmark, stop & shop, waldbaums and shoprite in one day. it was AWESOME! I miss that!
i miss lindenhurst. i told my best friend that yesterday.
but, i love where i am now, too.

Re: Question about different towns
I grew up in amityville and unless you plan to send your kids to private school and live south of merrick rd, I would say forget amityville. I LOVE the town, don't get me wrong and my grandpa still lives there as well as a bunch of friends, but the schools are just not good. It has a VERY small town feel, where everyone knows you and your business but its great. I loved my childhood there, but as soon as i got into the middle school, life changed so much!!
as for copiauge, my mom now lives there and its not good. again south of merrick is better, but I would pick amityville's south of merrick before copiauge.
both towns have had shootings in the past few years.
I say go for lindenhurst. the schools are better and the area is nicer IMO.
is there a reason you want to live in that area other then the commute? because you could move to other area's of Li where you could get into the city easily. Huntington for example is an hours train ride and has nicer areas but still affordable homes. or you could look into hicksville.
if you want to be near the water then I would look into massapequa because it keeps you in that area but its a lot nicer and safer, then amityville or copiauge.
