Question about DC saying first words
DS is constantly saying ma, ma, ma but not to me....it is just one of his first consonant blends. WHen do you consider it their first word? When they use it in context or when they just say it (like he is doing now?)

Re: Question about DC saying first words
When it is used to convery meaning (e.g. pointing at YOU and saying Mama). The babbling you are hearing now is a precurser to true speech though- so DC is totally on the right track!

Re: Question about DC saying first words
I b/v it is not considered a real word until it is said with meaning - for ex. when DS started saying Da-Da he said it ALL the time and it was never clear that he was referring to DH (aroud 6 mo). But, when he first started saying ma-ma - he only said it to refer to me. Now when he says da-da (he still says it alot though) it is obvious when he is using it to refer to DH (he is now one year).

I agree. DS says dada all day but he just says it to talk, he doesn't want DH or anything. So I dont consider it a work just yet
