Question about cramping

Does NOT drinking enough water (dehydration) cause cramping? I notice I haven't drank much at all this AM and am thinking that could be what's causing my cramping (I've been cramping since BFP). Also, how much water should I be drinking a day?

Re: Question about cramping

I haven't experienced it, but I've heard numerous times that it can, and in the 3rd trimester, may even cause pre-term labor if the dehydration is severe enough...

I think the amount of water is highly variable for each mom-to-be, but a good guage is pee color... it should be light yellow... clear = too much water and med-dark yellow = dehydration

My OB advised me that the base minimum to drink is 2L of water a day. As of 33 weeks, I drink a whoppin' 5 L, becuase when I drink less, I get headaches, back aches, edema.....

Re: Question about cramping

Yes, it can cause cramping. But cramping is also very common early in pregnant. I had cramping until 7-7.5 weeks and it started to subside once I hit 8 weeks.

Re: Question about cramping

I've had cramping on and off since my BFP. A few times, the cramps were probably related to not drinking enough water. Most of the time I think the cramps are just part of the normal stretching and growing that our bodies go through during pregnancy.

I don't measure the exact amount of water I drink, but I tend to have 3 sport sized water bottles at work and at least 2 large glasses (at least 16 or 20 oz glasses) of water with dinner. I don't think I drink as much on the weekends though.

Re: Question about cramping

Yes, my doctor told me that if you don't drink enough it can cause cramps and other not so fun stuff. My doctor recommends 64 ounces a day. The best solution for me was buying a 64 ounce container and filling it up in the morning just so I make sure I'm drinking enough. I was never a big water drinker so this helps me so much
