question about cleaning lady - damage done to something at your home
I know this is a first world problem, but I wanted opinions.
We recently hired a licensed, insured cleaning service to clean my home. The owner/proprietor came and did an estimate and outlined the service. For three cleanings, the same two women were sent to our house to clean. Long story short, I was not happy with the service for several reasons so I called and emailed the owner telling her to remove us from their schedule because it wasn't working out. She offered a discounted rate for the next cleaning but I don't want to have them come back.
Today, I went to use my vacuum and one of the attachments is broken. Would you call the owner to tell her and if so, would you ask for a refund to cover the cost of replacing the attachment?

question about cleaning lady - damage done to something at your home
Yes!
ETA: I have had my cleaning lady for 5 years and she has damaged a couple of items through the years, disclored my sheets, spilled scented oil on my wood floor and basically burning through the varnish etc. I have never ever deducted from her pay or even so much as brought it up to her bc hey-- stuff happens and I am happy with her generally. My initial instinct though was that if it is a cleaning company rather than an individual- let them eat the cost !!! it didn't occur to me though that they would fire or take out of the workers pay. I would be surprised if they did.

no, I look at it as part of the deal, sometimes things break, so long as it wasn't intentional or hugely expensive.

The ONLY reason I would not is because it might come out of the cleaners paycheck. These women make, what, $8-$10 an hour? Yes, they should have been more careful, but I personally err on the side of letting it go when its not "worth it".
Or in the case, if I thought for a MOMENT these women would get fined for it.
But you are in the right to call and ask. I don't fault you if you do.

I def would. Why should you eat the cost? It's an insured, licensed company.
Although it's happened to me a few times. Broken baby gates. Not only are they kid proof they're apparently cleaning people proof bc they broke 2! I ate the cost but fired them.

There's no way for you to prove it so I wouldn't.

This - our cleaning lady pulled out the cord on our vacuum and we paid for the replacement. We wrote her a note asking her to tell us in the future if anything was broken...
