question about car seat

For the car seat do we need to get the car seat strap cover? I got another head rest for him since he was a preemie and he's small, but I don't know if I need to get the car seat strap cover as well.

I had bought a set and when I brought the car seat to get inspected I was told not to use them because they're after market and not crash tested with the seat itself. I ended up putting them on her swing straps instead. Same with the nuzzler insert I had gotten as a present. We were told not to use it in the car seat because there should be nothing aftermarket between the baby and the seat itself. They told us to use a rolled up blanket or towel in a U shape around the baby's head at the beginning.

DD got so used to not having soft straps on the car seat that when we moved her into the convertible she didn't like the strap covers! So I just took them off.
