Re: Question about blood work after BFP

That's most likely what they are going to do at your appointment. Bloodwork to confirm, plus a bunch of other bloodwork (they take alot of blood at the first appointment). A PAP if you haven't had one yet this year, they will also ask you a bunch of medical history questions.

You may or may not get a sono as I know many OBs do not do them before 8 weeks.

If you want to get a blood test, go ahead, but really, the tests are like, 99.9% accurate. If they say you're pregnant, you're pregnant. As far as what comes next, alot of OBs won't even see you until your around 8 weeks. Some earlier, but some not. There's really nothing they can do for you before then either way and there's a higher likelihood of if you come in too early, they won't see anything yet, which would just cause undue stress and worry. There are MANY girls on here who go in too early and don't see a thing on their sonos and then like, 2 days later, they do. Meanwhile it's very stressful for those few days. And like I said, there isn't much the dr can do for you either way between now and then. But good luck and have a happy and healthy nine months!! And feel free to ask away, i'm sure there's tons of questions and that's what we're here for! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yeah even though we've been TTC for about 9 months now that we are we're in shock!!! I have so many questions, concerns....
I shouldn't eat fat free things right?
What about the gym? Moderation right?
I know they say to be careful the most during the first 3 months right?
We are also going on vacation on december 26 for a week to arizona, is it ok for me to fly?

All questions for your doctor, and some are more conservative than others. My doctor is OK with fat free foods (though I eat anything I can keep down!) and diet soda in moderation. Some prefer you avoid Splenda. The gym in moderation, and my doctor said to avoid ab exercises since that's a strain on the belly. There was a formula for having your heart rate not raise above, but I can't remember it. Things like dying hair, etc., my doctor said to wait until after first trimester.

If you feel fine, I'm sure they'll say you are fine to fly. But I'll warn you, I was feeling my worst around 8 weeks, and would not have wanted to be on vacation!

Minor cramping is normal. If it gets to be excrutiating and/or accompanied by blood, call the dr. immediately! Mine said you shouldn't be doubled over in pain, but anything short of that is normal.

congrats!!! many doctors won't want to see you until you're a little further along, so that they can see/hear a heartbeat on the sono. many docs don't do the "confirmation" bloodwork at all (mine doesn't, i just go at 8 weeks for a sono).

ask 10 people about what to eat or not, and you will get 10 different answers. i personally deprive myself of nothing. i eat anything i want in moderation, even the foods you're not "supposed" to eat. so if you like some fat free foods, i say go for it, just keep your diet balanced.

the gym is totally fine, just don't push yourself more than you normally would - you want to keep your heartrate in a reasonable range. i would ask your doctor if he/she has any specific guidelines about exercise.

flying is fine!

No you don't need to. My OB doesn't do anything until you see them at 8 weeks. If you have had a previous miscarriage or problems you might want to to check your betas but with a normal pregnancy you don't need to do a blood test to confirm unless you want to.

don't need a blood test to confirm...and stop testing sweety!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

you are pregnant and you will see the doc in 2 weeks!

there is ALL kinds of info out there about what to eat and what not to eat - but the ONLY info that matters is what your doctor tells you. For now - you are fine to just be 'smart'. Avoid raw foods, undercooked meat, etc, un-necessary medications, etc.

welcome to the pregnancy boards!
