Question about basic party prices? I am clueless!

Was wondering if anyone knew the round about rate for a party in a room in the back of a bar..

Im looking for basic buffet..beer and wine..small room in back of bar. Theres tons of places like that near me, but I want to get an idea of what the going rate for something like that usually is. I havent planned a party since my wedding!

Also..for a 30th birthday party with about 40 people..should I be doing open bar or is beer and wine fine?

I called a ton of places last year for a 70th for my dad.

The places ranged from $21 for a lunch to $55 for a dinner. Each place had their own 'offerings'.

IMO beer and wine is fine and will help cut the cost drastically.

I had DH's 40th at the Main Event in Plainview. They gave us part of the place and a big part of the bar. At the time I think they were very inexpensive but they have so many packages and things to work with you could do anything.

I had about 35 people and spent about $800. Buffet and open bar. That was a few years ago and I think it's more now but overall I was very happy with everything.

If I were to guess about it with buffet and wine and beer I would say about $30/$35 a head.

eta: we did this on a Sunday aftternoon when absoutely nothing was going on there. No games, nothing. They are a sports oriented bar with big TVs everywhere.
