question about backround check when renting an apt
I looked at an apt yesterday that Imthinking of taking. Its in someones house. She said they'd call me today because they want me to fill out a paper to do a backround check because they have a child and get nervous about crazy people. LOL. Anyway, just wondering but do they usually ask for your SS # when they do a backround check? I dont like the idea of having to give someone I dont know that info? TIA!

Before I was approved, I had to give my ssn to the rental office. I believe they run a credit report on you.

I agree with you. I was hesitant about giving my ss# to an individual when I was looking at an apt. in a house. I felt safer giving it to a business when I rented in a complex. I would tell them that you arent' comfortable giving that info and ask them if you can give 2 references instead.

this is my feelings excacly. If I rented in a complex or something Id feel more comfy giving it than to some random people in a house. Im hoping they will let me give some other type of info bc I dont want to loose out on the apt over it.

When I was set to rent my apartment, the landlord asked for a copy of my credit report. So I went online and got it myself, and printed it out for him.
He'd already seen a pay stub and knew that I had a steady job and made a good salary, so I guess he trusted me to be honest with the copy I gave him, I don't know. But maybe you could offer that?
