question about 1st Dr. appoint.

Hi all, I was just wondering when did the doctor have you come in for your 1st Dr. appointment?
I took an at home pregnancy test Aug. 18th and it came back positive... they did not make my appointment until Sept. 15th. They wanted me to wait to come in until I am 7 or 8 weeks pregnant for an internal sono.
I am so suprised that they did not have me come in to do bloodwork and give me vitamins, etc.
Did your doctors have you wait this long as well?

First off congrats! As for the appt, that sounds pretty normal. I saw an RE already but my regular OB didn't want to see me until 8 weeks. I would just start OTC prenatals if you haven't already.

I had my first appointment at just 7 weeks and really all they did was another urine pg test, gave me a pap (I was over due ) and gave me samples of vitamins to try. I have to go back next week when the internal sono will be more accurate at measuring and determining due date.
I'm sure if you wanted to you could call your Dr. and have them call in a script for vitamins. I just bought the One a Day Prenatals and took those until my appointment.

Yes, I was surprised too but apparently its typical! My first appt was around 8 weeks, that is when they can get a better sono/heartbeat etc.

The doctors office said if the pregnancy test came back pregnant then I was pregnant-- and that they were pretty accurate. My doctors office office did have a phone consult with me about what to eat/do and what not to and gave me a script for prenatals prior to my 8 week appt.

CONGRATS!! Most drs wait until that time, unless you had complications in the past. I was seen right away because I had 2 miscarriages, but usually you go in around 8 weeks for bloodwork, sono, etc.


You can get OTC prenatal vitamins, or you can ask if they can send you a RX for vitamins. It's all the same though.

I read on here that some drs. don't want you to come in until around 8 weeks. I'm currently 6 and have my first appt next week with one dr. and another appt. the following week with another dr. They didn't want me to come in any sooner.

I actually asked when I made the appt. what prenatals I should take so if your concerned just give them a call and see what they advise you

Congratulations!

I went for my first appointment on Wednesday, I was 7 weeks and 5 days. They tested me and did an internal. I saw the baby and heard the heartbeat.
I would call them again and ask them to start you on vitamins, or if they have any they can recommend.

My doctor wouldn't see me until between 8 and 10 weeks, not even to confirm with a blood test. The only thing they said over the phone was that they would have the nurses write a script for prenatals if I wasn't already taking some.

I didn't even get any instructions on what I should or shouldn't do/eat/drink. Fortunately I had LIF to help me with that stuff.

I got my BFP on Aug 19... only went for bloodwork this past Monday (8/29) & my first appt/soon isn't until 9/12!
