Re: Azoospermia update: unsettling appointment

Ok, then. So, DH and I went back to his urologist today and had a pretty unsettling experience. First off, the fertility clinic called DH yesterday to say his second SA also had no sperm. The urologist who ordered the test, gave us no diagnosis or treatment plan. The doctor didn't even read us the blood work results until I asked for it. He just repeated the definition of azoospermia. There was no ultrasound done or medications being offered. He basically just said he wants to retest for a genetic disorder because the lab messed up and he wants to go straight for a biopsy (which could cause massive bleeding). And, then in the future we if there is even any sperm, we will have to do IVF.
After I hounded him, the only info. I received was that DH has high FSH (23) and low testosterone (180). What does this mean? I have no idea. If anyone's DH had this, I'd love to hear your story.
Needless to say, next week I made an appointment with another urologist and we are going to see an RE at Cornell. Yea, and my DH left the office crying. I am not just saying this because we had bad results, but I thought the doc was a low-life.
THERE IS HOPE. As funny as it sounds, it's actually really good news that your husband has low T. Most likely this is what's causing him to have 0 sperm. I am shocked that the dr didn't want to try any meds before rushing to surgery.
First, he has to have genetic testing. They will check to make sure there's no genetic reason for the azoospermia. If there's not, the urologist will probably recommend Clomid for your husband. Low dose, perhaps every other day. 180 T is VERY low. Men cannot produce sperm at this level. And if they can, there are usually so few they aren' making it out. He'll be retested in about a month to see if his hormones are at normal levels. If they are, they'll do an SA after 3 months.
This is EXACTLY what happened with my DH. We still moved directly to IVF but we're doing it with the hopes of having his biological child now...seven months ago we never thought this was an option.
Please FM me if you want more info. I'm actually really hopeful for you. I hope you are, too. Tell your DH not to worry!!!

Re: Azoospermia update: unsettling appointment
I would DEF get a 2nd opinion. Also I think an RE can help you read the results and set up a plan for DH! GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: Azoospermia update: unsettling appointment
I am sorry that you are going through this, but the fear of the unknown is terrible. I bet that once you find the right urologist and there is a plan in place, things will work out fine!
