Question

At what point do/did they "keep" you for labor. I always thought it was 3 cm, I know the whole 5 minutes apart for at least an hour. But what about dilation?

Also, for those who had an epi, how dilated were you when you were able to get it, and/or took it??

Re: Question

When I got to the hospital I was 4cm and the contractions were coming 306 mins apart and they kept me. I was b/w 5-6 cm when I got the epi.

Re: Question

Originally I was just told to show up at the hospital when my contractions were 5 minutes apart.

My water broke at 34 weeks and I had to go in for an evaluation but I was already 5cm & contractions were about 5 minutes apart.

Second time - I left the house late & showed up 10cm dilated, labor in full force.

My twin showed up at the hospital at 1cm dialated, contractions sporadic and was told to come back when they were 5 minutes apart.

eta. Sorry - can't help you on the epi stuff, neither of us had them.

Re: Question

My doctor told me not to go to the hospital until the contractions were 5 min apt for at least 45-60min. They were 7-8 min apart for 4 hours and then 6-7 for another 3 hours, so I called and they told me to go in.

When I got to the hospital, I was almost 4 cm dialated and 100% effaced. If I was less than that they said that they would have kept me in the maternity triage for 2 hours to see if I progressed before they gave me a room.

ETA: I could have gotten it at 4cm, but I wanted to hold out as long as I could. Through the course of labor, they had to break my water to put an internal monitor. And when they did that the contractions came full force and I begged for an epi.

Re: Question

I was 7 cm when I got to the hospital and that is when I got the epidural. The residents were taking their sweet time setting me up and did not check me for about an hour. I guess they just assumed I was an over anxious 1st time mom. My doc let them have it afterwards. My contractions were never consistent. they were 3-4 minutes apart and then they would stop. the whole labor was only 6 hours for me.

I was induced so I can't help you with the "keeping" part...

but I asked for the epi as soon as I could get it and they gave it to me at 3 cm...best thing ever!!!

Re: Question

I came in and stayed at 2 cm after at least two hours of regular contractions.

I got the epidural at 2 cm...good thing because I was "stuck" at 3 before my c/s.

Re: Question

I showed up at the hospital 4cm and 100%efaced. I had no idea I was having contractions, just had a slow leak and bloody show so I knew I was in labor. They kept me obviously and thereafter had my daughter.

I think I was told 4-5 minutes apart???
