Quesions about nursery

I am starting to think about how I want to set up the nursery. We live in a two bedroom apartment and my parents live about 3 hours away. Right now we use the 2nd bedroom as a guest room and have a queen size bed in there.

I want to get a crib, glider, and dresser (put changing pad on top) but there is no way we can fit all the and keep the queen size bed. I definitely want to keep the bed bc I know my parents will be out here a lot more to visit once the baby comes.

I plan on keeping the baby in DH and I's bedroom in the beginning in the RNP, so I was thinking of just putting the dresser and glider in the other room and keeping the bed in there (not setting up crib till later on).

When the baby wakes up for feedings in the mid of night, where do I fed them if the glider is in other room and more importantly where do I change them if changing pad is also in other room? I also would like to have the crib to put the baby down for naps so the baby can get used to it right away.

How did/do you plan on doing those things if baby is sleeping in your room the first few months?

Sorry this ended up being so long! Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Quesions about nursery

I've never had a changing pad up on a table or dresser. I've always had it smack dab on the floor in the living room. I've been changing DD there since she was born and she'll be 18 months tomorrow! It actually worked out great because now when I need to change her, I just say "go to your diaper spot" and she crawls right onto her changing pad and lays down. (It's also great for when they start to roll and flip because they won't fall off the table -- you may not realize how common that is!!)

I have always done everything in the living room. Feeding and changes I mean. In fact, I often slept on the couch in there with her in the RNP at the very beginning when she was still feeding every 3 hours around the clock (around 3 1/2 months, she dropped her first feeding and would go from 7 pm to 1 am without waking to eat -- took until over 6 m to drop the 1 am feeding and go to 4 am). Every baby is different as far as that goes, though. We did have DD in our room, but I used the living room as my "home base." DD's bedroom is upstairs and ours is downstairs and I just didn't want to be climbing stairs in the middle of the night. We finally moved her into her own room at 9 m old. I'd suggest going a little sooner than that, but you definitely have plenty of time still!

Oh, I never fed her in the glider, but we have very comfy couches. I used the boppy to help support her in my arms when I was sleepy (and because I found it comfy).

HTH!

Is a pull out couch an option for you?

We are in a similar situation with the second bedroom currently used as a guest room. I've come to the realization that the bed and baby stuff won't fit so we are going to have to get rid of it. We are going to rely on our pull out for guests.

Edited: another, cheaper option is a blow-up mattress. The ones that are thicker can be very comfortable to sleep on. Not sure what kind of space you have, but thought I'd throw this out there. Then the bedroom would be freed up for the baby stuff.

A blow up mattress isn't really an option.. my parents have bad backs and that won't be comfy for them.

I did think about replacing our living room couch with a sleeper sofa... so that might be a good option for us. Any recs on a comfortable one?

We have a similar situation except it's my inlaws and they are a three hour plane ride away! Unfortunately, I had to get rid of the bed. I contemplated a daybed, but it wouldn't have fit with the glider and I wanted the glider. Besides that a twin size bed would not have solved the issue anyways. In the nursery we have a dresser with changing pad on top, a crib, bookshelf, and glider.

When they come my DH and I take the blow up mattress and they sleep in our room. I can't imagine making them sleep on a blow up mattress with their backs. It's easier for us just to sleep in the living room!

I'd either do a pull out couch or a blow up mattress and keep the nursery the way you want it.
