Ques about lab results - iron

In looking at my lab results on line I can't figure out what would be the result for my iron levels...any idea what I should be looking for?

Thanks.

There are different tests to measure iron level- serum iron (aka serum ferritin which measures the total iron stored in the liver) , total iron binding capacity and serum transferrin in which measure how much iron is bound to the protein transferrin in your blood.

Great! Your OB actually measured your hemoglobin level not your iron levels.

being totally clueless about this how are those #s related because when I did a google for the HGB with my number it gave the explanations for the ranges and how they relate to being anemic.

A large percentage of your body's iron (approximately 70%) is found in hemoglobin-so low hemoglobin is associated with low iron levels although there are other causes of low hemoglobin levels such as other vitamin deficiencies or low thyroid- Many doctors will run more then one test to make sure the low hemoglobin is the result of low iron and not other causes.
