queens zoo membership- or others in that vicinity
I live in the five towns. I think i am going to buy membership to one museum/zoo. first- being in that area, which one thing would you choose?
I am thinking of doing the queens zoo- also gives admission to prospect park, bronx and central park zoo and the aquarium. but- is this worth it for the winter? or look for something indoors?
lastly- it looks like i can buy an individual premium- which is membership for one adult plus one guest. does that mean I can bring a guest hwoever many times I want? this option is cheaper than family, and since DH works crazy hours, i figured this may be more worth it

I have zoo membership for all the zoos plus the aquarium. i have 3 kids so it only makes sense. not sure about the individual. If you join you & DH is that the family plan? In that case I would definitely do Individual premium. Your DH - or anyone - can be your guest then. I don't see any difference in joining in the winter or summer - you're still getting 12 months out of it whether it begins in December or June, KWIM? I found with getting the membership we started going more often to get our money's worth. we joined in August and we've been the the BZ 3x, QZ 1x and Aquarium 2x.

If I was not PG, I would get the membership too. But not now. I would get it in the Spring. It will get too cold in the winter to take DC outside. Although there are indoor parts for the NY Aquarium.
And like 1 mommy said, sign up at the beginning of the month. It's good for 1 year and end on the last day of the last month so it's almost like you have 1 extra month.
As far as which membership. I work on weekends so I would only get one for me and DS. Did you check the details?
One membership is unlimited access and 16 passes to extras (like the Gorilla, butterflies, etc..). Not sure about the guest passes.
One membership is unlimited access to all. I know that one has free passes for guests if they are with you. Not sure how many at a time you can have.
FM Lillykat, she has a membership.
I just signed up for the Long Island Children Museum for the winter. DS was run around and it's indoor. It was $60 for 1 year for just DS and me. It's $10 at each visit and DS has to pay since he is over 1 year old.

LICM actually sounds good- i've never been there. is it interesting for a toddler?
also- this may be stupid- but is there some reason you wouldnt go to zoo while pregnant? you mentioned you would buy a membership, except that you're pregnant now. wondering if i'm missing something, or misread- jsut asking cuz i'm 6 weeks now

I am due next Summer in July. I just can't see myself with a 2 year old walking for a few hours in the hot weather when I will look like a gigantic whale. Then with a NB after a c-section.
I will probably join the following year in 2010. It will be really worse it with DS and a baby to do things. You need about 5 visits to make it worse it.
ETA: the LICM is great for toddlers. It's an interactive museaum. They have a tot play area that you can get free tickets to (when you have your admission tickets). It's for 30 minutes each session in the section of the museum.

I have the individual membership. You can bring one guest with you everytime you go. It doesn't have to be the same person. Children are free untill they are 3. In the winter, the Bronx Zoo has a nice exhibit called Holiday Lights. They light up a big portion of the zoo and thery have different activities and entertainment. Other than that, it's best to wait until the spring.

I have the premium membership family b.c DH comes to and we often bring a friend and love it - it gives me unlimited admission to the above zoos and aquarium you mentioned - I have been to them all except for the prospect park zoo. It has DEFINITELY been worth it. I bring another mom from here with me all the time and she is free - also when you go to the bronx zoo - all the extras are included - so we can go as much as we want on the monorail, congo, butterfly area, etc with no charge - and your guests also gets into all those attractions free as well. The cost I think at the Bronx zoo for all that is $27 pp. We got more than our money's worth a long time ago with ours.
I don't think it matters when you join b.c it is good for 1 year (end of the month -I joined beginning of May and it is good thru the end of may 2009).
Also you get 10% off food and gift shops - which is nice when you want lunch or drinks.

They are not doing the holiday lights this year - I was really disappointed - instead they are doing a daytime winter wonderland thing according to their website.
