Q if you are early in your pg - maternity clothes

i'm about 14 weeks and at the point where my clothes are uncomfortable (still can wear them though) i still have the rest of the summer to get through. I bought the be band (haven't tried it yet so i dont even know if i'll like it) but I'm due in Jan and don't want to spend a ton of money on summer maternity clothes when i will really need fall and winter. what do you recommend doing? buy a couple of pieces and try to hold out?? i need work and casual clothes and don't want to break the bankChat Icon

i would definitely buy some short sleeved work basics - you can easily wear them in the fall/winter with a jacket or a cardigan. I know I am always warm when I'm pg, too, and I was wearing short sleeves in the winter. Plus they're all on sale now, too!

I'm sure you can find a pair of cropped pants on sale, too. You still have at least 4-6 weeks of warmer weather, you WILL get use out of them!

I had the belly band, too. It was okay, but I actually used a hairband tip my SIL told me about even more:

Just take a black hairband and wrap it around the button. Take the remaining band and loop it through the button hole of your pants, twist and bring it back around to loop that end around the button. It will buy you some room for awhile.

I also had a pair of jeans from Old Navy that really grew with me through my pregnancy. And I've been living in maternity capris from JC Penney.

Good luck!

definitely get a few basics now so you will be comfortable. I am due Dec. and I bought capris, black pair and brown pair, a pair of denim capris and some short sleeved shirts things that I can wear casual and for work and a pair of black pants, this way I can be comfortable through the summer and have basic black pants to go with anything. I also bought these things on sale as a PP mentioned. As for tops, some of my tops are still fitting, so as long as they fit I will continue to wear them for now.

Also, I would go to Marshalls or some place like that and just get empire waisted dresses/shirts - non-maternity.
I'm 27 wks + and still can wear non-maternity long shirts and empire dresses in a size medium - and I'll wear them post-baby.
Tunics are great too. I am wearing a Tory Burch tunic today that will work pregnant or not.

I bought 2 pair of shorts and I am still wearign my dresses. I also bought 2 pairs of pant that I think will be bale to get me through or mostly through the pregnancy.

I am holding off on tops because I have stuff that I can still wear.

I am 14 weeks and due in Jan.....my goal is to buy stuff that can transition through by adding layers if needed.

Re: Q if you are early in your pg - maternity clothes

Im due mid december. I bought 3 summer dresses back in June for work and have been using them through the summer.. i am already sick wearing them all the time!!!.. So the way I see it, if you can use them for 1-2 months ita worth it- like pp's said just try to find them on sale/ at a low price. Each dress was aboyt 20 bucks from motherhood and I get a lot of compliments on them, they are super comfortable and i dont have to worry about coordination ! I plan on wearing them through September.

I also finally gave in a couple of weeks ago and bought two pair of shorts and a pair of capris for casual wear.

I think the key is just buying a few items at a time, so you have stuff to wear that is comfortable but you dont overload on stuff you will only be wearing for a few weeks.

Re: Q if you are early in your pg - maternity clothes

This weekend I bought my first round of maternity clothes at 10wks. I just feel so fat and ugly in my normal clothes! I am due in february, so I have the same concern abt spending a lot on clothes when I know for sure ill need fall/winter stuff.
So for now I got 3pair shorts, 4 tanks(which will be great yr round), 1 pair leggings (great yr round), and 1 pair jeans, which ill also use for the whole pregnancy.

I don't plan on getting any fancy summer tops. Ill prob get some that can be used in fall and winter and hopefully some sweater dresses!

i agree with this! im only 9 weeks but already many of my fitted clothes don't fit! fortunately we're in the summer so a lot of my flowy summer dresses are keeping me comfortable :) i would just buy a few things, and like a few girls mentioned, old navy has some great deals too.

I used a hairband too, but I looped it through the button hole and through itself so it stays put. the other ends hooks on the button.

Re: Q if you are early in your pg - maternity clothes

If your on your first Pregnancy, you should be okay for a while with the belly band. I used this with while PG with DS. I actually wasn't crazy about it. It would ride up alot and you could see that my pants where unbuttoned when I wore a tank top or any top that was thin. Which is of course what you wear in the summer.
I finally went and bought maternity pants and was so happy I did. So you can try to hold off as long as you can.
As far as tops, I wore all my tops until about 20 weeks PG. Then I went out and bought maternity shirts. I actually could still wear non-materinty shirts till the end of my PG, but in one size larger then I usually wear.

I'm 6 weeks with my second, and you wouldn't believe by belly already.
