Q. for those who EBF - a bit long related to DS who is 10 1/2 months...advice needed!

I have been EBF for 10 1/2 months now. When I work during the week, I pump 2 bottles for DS.

The last two weeks, I have been pumping less and less. DS eats table food now and nurses less. I have no freezer stash so I started mixing the bottles with organic similac. DS still gets BF in the am, late afternoon & nightime feeding. I had no choice...I just wasn't producing enough milk. I really wanted to make it to 1 year and transition to whole milk but I am okay with this for the next month & 1/2 half.

My question is now I am pumping practically nothing. I want to just stop pumping and give DS two formula bottles during the work week. I want to continue to nurse the first feeding, late afternoon & bedtime feeding.

If I stop pumping & give 2 formula bottles, does that mean I have to follow that on the weekend when I am not working? Now, when I am off from work and on weekends, I EBF and don't give bottles. But if I stop pumping, my body won't produce milk during those 2 feedings when DS usually gots the formula bottles right?

Basically, I can't stop pumping during the afternoon & expect to EBF on the weekends - right?

Sorry so long!

i had to continuously pump even when i cut down to morning and night feedings and weekend otherwise your body will stop producing. Its a pain but so worth it for your DC. I BF until about 13 months.

I never pumped (hated it) I EBF my kids for the first year and introduced milk when they were a year and BF at night and in the mornings. I also would BF on the weekends during the day. I always had milk so you should be fine with just BF on the weekends.Chat Icon

I never pump on the weekends or during weeks off from work. I just want to stop pumping. I just want my body to realize that it needs to produce milk first thing in the morning & at night...I plan to BF those times every single day.

I just don't want to stop pumping & mess everything up. I made it this long!

You can probably just transition to whole milk at this point, that is a an option.
My dd nursed very sparatically as she got older and we never had an issue. Maybe you can try nursing on the weekends and supplement with cup or bottle of milk after if he still seems hungry

My Pediatrician said I can not start whole milk until DS is at least 1 years old. He turns 1 at the very end of May

It will!!! I don't feel anything until DD goes to the boob then after a minute or two I feel the letdown (I used to feel letdowns a few times a day when EBFing).

I EBF DD until she was 5 months then I just wasn't producing enough so she was getting 1 formula bottle/day. After a few weeks I started cutting down on pumping (HATED IT) and by 6.5 months I gave it up completely!

For the last 1.5 months i've been BFing in the morning before work and at night before she goes to bed and she gets formula during the day. I hope to continue this way until she's 1 or she self weens.

That is exactly what I want to do. No pumping would be such a relief!

You can do it. You body will regulate itself. I was only nursing at night at the end (by the almost 2year mark) I always had enough for them.
