Q about Nursing Schedule...

I am hoping as breastfeeding gets better, I can put DS on some sort of a schedule the next few weeks.

Do you nurse your DC every 3 hours over the course of 24 hours?

Or do you vary between day & night?

At point, can you go 4 hours at night?

My DS is only 11 days but his doctor's appointment went really well today. he has gained more weight than they expected and don't think I need to supplement with formula anymore.

Re: Q about Nursing Schedule...

Thats great he is gaining weight well, good job mama! I didn't really go by a schedule---I just BF on demand when DS was hungry---a lot of the time in the beginning it was every 3 hours, but sometimes more, sometimes less---I didn't wake him up to nurse, he let me know when he was ready! GL, trust me, it does get easier!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good news he is doing well! Chat Icon

They put themselves on a schedule. Soon you should notice that he will need less at night. I know around 3 months DS started sleeping through the night more often. I never really paid attention to when he was eating during the day. I just fed him on demand. (But I also pumped, so that gave me more freedom to go out.) All I cared about was him sleeping at night. Glorious!!!!

Good luck!

Re: Q about Nursing Schedule...

I always BF on demand. As a newborn, DS typically ate every 2.5-3 hours unless he was going through a growth spurt. By 3-4 months, he began eating every 3-4 hours. Sometimes he has longer stretches during the night, but other times he wakes frequently to nurse.

Re: Q about Nursing Schedule...

I EBF pretty much on demand.. when DD was a newborn, she would eat every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-4 at night. At 4 months, she now eats every 3-4 during the day and night time is still a little random usually a 5 1/2 hour stretch and then another 3-4 hour stretch. Ofcourse during growth spurts she ate every hour or so... this only happened twice though.
