Q about epi pens-

Hi everyone
I'm a NYC teacher with ghi insurance and uft for prescriptions

My little guy needs an epi pen. Are they covered?
What do you guys pay? Do you get them through mail order or from pharmacy?

Believe it or not I called uft office today and got 2 different answers from 2 diff people. I'm wondering what really goes on...

Thanks guys

I paid $15 after insurance. Got it from cvs... Pharmacist said insurance covered $300 (if I remember correctly)

Re: Q about epi pens-

it obviously depends on your individual insurance, but for me it doesn't cost any more than any other prescription. I don't remember actual price, but I certainly wasn't surprised/annoyed by it, so I am sure it's reasonable.

Q about epi pens-

If you have your DC in childcare or school, you'll need a second set to leave with them, so have the Dr write the script the right way. Each pack comes with two pens, but you aren't supposed to split them up.

They're over $300 w/out ins but I think the most I've ever paid is the highest/Tier 3 copay for my plan.

I pay $40 for the 2-pack of pens.

Just curious why you can't split them up? I do it all the time to give one to my son's school and one to my parents for their house.

two come in a pack in case one doesn't work-- which is why you always need two in case of emergency.
