PVC or wood swing set--EDITED to add question

PVC or wood swing set--EDITED to add question

DH and I are having a hard time figuring out what type of swing set we should get for our backyard.

We looked at the one that is displayed at Costco, which is really nice and seems like a great deal and I'm leaning towards that.

DH however, after visiting Wood Kingdom, is pretty convinced we should go with a PVC set from them. His whole thing is that while the PVC is more costly initially it's much safer, lasts longer and doesn't need any upkeep. He also likes the idea of buying through Wood Kingdom with a warranty compared to Costco.

I think the Costco one is fine and actually looks nicer than the PVC and comes with more accessories that DD would like.

Help us settle the debate! PVC or Wood??? Pros and cons of each?

QUESTION:

So DH has done more research and came across the Gorilla swing sets that are made out of timber shield, basically a pre stained and sanded wood that holds up much better and doesn't need yearly maintenance. Does anyone have this type of swing set? Would love to hear how it's held up.
My only concern with the pvc model we are looking at is that it's really barebones and I'm not willing to spend 4K plus to add all the things I would want.

Don't have one but if I was to get one and I had the money I would get a PVC one it's definitely nicer and less of an upkeep and I am lazy and know I wouldn't do the up keep needed with a wood one.

With that said I would also consider the price and know the kids wouldn't be using it forever so I would have no problem getting a wood one that wasn't that expensive for them to use.

I would go for the PVC. Like you said, less upkeep. We had a wooden one for years...but then it was getting faded and worn. We bought a metal one from Lifetime and it's awesome. It's playground quality.

No advice because we are debating the same thing! And it's because we saw the one at Costco too. We were leaning towards the Costco one because it is a good deal, but then I saw my neighbors wooden faded, rotting one... so I don't know what we are going to do! Good luck on your decision!

Do PVC... We have wood from Creative Playthings and i always forget to call to do the maintenance. Also, we needed to put termite baits around the playground bc we are in a heavily wooded area.

PVC all the way! No yearly maintenance.

My sister and BIL have a gorilla playset. I believe they've had it for 4 or 5 years now and it still seems fine to me.

We got the Costco swing set about 4 years ago and still in great shape. Boys love it and looks great. We use the picnic table still all the time in the summer when friends come over and kids sit at the table.
No issues and we got a great deal from Costco. Jealous of the ones that are out now bc it definitely got nicer through the years with more stuff, but we still are happy with ours and kids use it a lot.

I have the gorilla playset and its help up well...but its only 1 year old so its hard to judge. We did re-seal it at the end of the season to help it hold up during the winter and it did.
A friend came over recently and said its help up better than her toys r us brand one that she got if that helps you compare. However, it is still wood, it does split and does need to be maintained (re-sealed each year) if you want it to last. If you dont mind that upkeep, I would recommend that brand...if not, go PVC

We bought this suncast swingset from homedepot last year for $999. It was a special value at the time.

I wanted mostly PVC for the reason you said as well.

Do you know if your Gorilla playset is one with timber shield?

Our neighbors have a Gorilla swingset as well - it's at least 7 years old and is still holding strong.

We just bought a wood set from Wood kingdom as well. the PVC set we liked was the same price as the wood set we liked
In the end I chose the wood because i liked the look of wood better
We will def be doing the maintenance they offer every year to keep it looking good
