Putting baby to sleep

I cannot get a decent night's rest because I am paranoid about her during her sleep. I usually put her in one of the sleep sacs, sometimes she wears a hat. She tends to roll almost onto her side and throw her other arm over herself. I am paranoid laying her down after she eats because I am scared she is going to spit up and choke, I am scared of SIDS. Her best/favorite sleep is propped in the boppy pillow but that's not safe to use in the PNP is it???

How do/did you put your NB to sleep? Should I get a sleep positioner? Should I not lay her right own after eating?

The worrying never stops does it Chat Icon

Any advice/reassurance/input is appreciated Chat Icon Thanks from the newbie mommy.

Re: Putting baby to sleep

For me, there was NOTHING in the crib. No positioners, no blankets, no hats, no Boppies, etc.

All she got was swaddled. I had her in the co-sleeper next to me the first 2 months and it was SO hard at first because I was constantly worried about SIDS. Eventually, you'll feel calmer and you'll sleep better.

Considering the rate of SIDS deaths dropped dramatically once the "Back to Sleep" program started, try to rest assure that she won't choke to death on her own spit-up (you'd hear it anyway).

Re: Putting baby to sleep

If you're concerned about choking on spit up (does she have reflux?) the best thing to do is elevate the mattress with a rolled towel or wedge (underneath) on one side.
ETS: Some use a positioner but that made me paranoid too .

Also- NO the worrying never stops- although it DOES lessen to the point that you are not CONSTANTLY worrying. Still though, I always go in to check on her at night to make sure she's still breathingChat Icon .

Re: Putting baby to sleep

Can I ask why she wears a hat? Does she have exema she scratches?

Regardless I swaddled dd until she was about 5 months. It's the only way she would sleep through the night.
A boppy isn't really safe especially if she is rolling/turning over.

You can get a crib wedge to put under the mattress that will prop her up.
Wedge

The first thing my dh bought when we found out I was pg was the Angel Care SIDS mat. It's a bit $$. They have the original one for $100 in the store still or the "new improved" one for $140

Re: Putting baby to sleep

I have a wedge that he sleeps on. It is nerve-wracking to sleep at first, but you have to have confidence that your baby will do fine as she sleeps. Best thing to do is say a prayer when you go to bed Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Putting baby to sleep

She rarely spits up so I have no reason to be all that concerned....but I am. Sometimes she wears a hat if she's cold. Maybe I'll try a wedge thing. Thanks ladies, I guess I should just try to chill out a bit Chat Icon

We put him in his crib and also have a video monitor on him.

I love the video monitor. It has audio and video. We have the Summer Infant Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor

Re: Putting baby to sleep

we never had anything in the crib although we had bumpers... ds still sleeps without blankets and he is almost 15 months (I just dress him warm if it is cold in the room)... most of the time I tried to burp him before putting him in the crib...

Re: Putting baby to sleep

If you don't have a sleep positioner, you can just roll a recieving blaqnket up and use it to prop them on their side. That is what they did when my son was in the NICU and he loved it so much, we did it for awhile after we brought him home.
