Punctuation questions for the grammar experts!
So we are having a discussion on the proper use of plurals and possessives and need help!
1. If you want to say that the Brown family owns a car, do you say it's the "Browns' car" or the "Brown's car?"
2. If you just want to refer to the family as if on a card - is it "Love, the Browns" or "Love, the Brown's"?
3. If someone's name ends in an "s" do you say that it's "Marcus' Birthday" or that it is "Marcus's Birthday?"
I have seen everything both ways and I thought I knew the answers but now I am thoroughly confused!

Re: Punctuation questions for the grammar experts!
1. If the family's last name is Brown, it is the Brown's car 2. Love, the Browns (the Brown family is not possessing anything in this case) 3. It could be either. Marcus' birthday is more common because putting 's is redundant

Re: Punctuation questions for the grammar experts!
actually #1 would be
The Browns' car ( In this case, referring to a whole family would be plural since there is more than one person, not just one family)
