Pumping newbie with questions
DS is almost 3 weeks old and EBF and I've read that between 3-4 weeks is a good time to introduce a bottle of breast milk since I'll eventually be going back to work and I'd like to be able to leave the house once in a while for more than an hour. I've heard the best time to pump is in the morning but I'm wondering how this affects supply. I was told by a LC that I may have an oversupply so I want to be careful. Also if DS gets a bottle do I have to pump at the same time so it won't mess up my supply? Also I've read that breast feeding should be well established, what exactly does this mean?

By three to four weeks breastfeeding should be well established. I would suggest pumping after one of your DS feedings. Try to pump at the same time every day. I had a huge over supply and pumping made it worse especially if I varied the timing or duration of my pumping session.

i waited to introduce a bottle until DS was 10-11 weeks and it was a bit of a disaster. i think anytime after 3 weeks should be fine. is he latching and eating well? that's usually what they mean by well established.
i would suggest pumping for a little bit after a feeding and freezing the milk. then you will have a stash for when you want to go out. you should try to pump at the same time he is taking a bottle to keep up your supply. i missed once or twice and it didn't have an effect. also, you will feel especially full if you skip a feeding.
pumping could give you an oversupply but if it's only an ounce or two after each feeding, don't worry about it. once you go back to work and are pumping during the day, your supply will probably adjust.
