Pumping before milk supply is in....nothing coming out...
DS was born Thursday morning, it's has been almost 2 days and he is a lazy breastfeeder they said, he latches on and sucks a couple sucks and then just plays with the nipple and spits it out. I am able to express some colostrum. They gave me the Medela Symphony to use until I leave....when will my milk come in and when I pump and nothing comes out, I mean nothing (bottle is bone dry) does that mean I won't have a supply? I had an amazing supply with DD, I try to pump or latch him on every couple hours. Any insight?
TIA!

Keep putting him to the breast. The colostrum is enough for him right now. My milk didn't come in till 4 days after my section.

keep at it..colostrum is thicker and not as much and doesnt come out really well with the pump! The more you put your lo to the breast the more you will tell your body to make and the faster your milk will fully come in! Mine didnt come in until day 7 - but the colostrum is all my DS took and it was fine!
Good luck! Keep at it! =)))

ITA with the other ladies! Is there a reason you are pumping already? Just keep offering the breast. Don't give a paci or bottle yet. Any time he is wiling to suck put him to the breast. Their stomachs are so tiny at that age that colostrum is all he needs. A pump is NO indication of your milk supply. I can hardly pump a drop and Declan obviously gets enough. Some woman just don't respond as well to a pump. You can do this! Check out kellymom.com. read as much as you can about breastfeeding a newborn. It will help ease some of your fears!
ETA: try more often. The more he sucks the faster your supply will come in!

I had to pump since Logan went to Nicu at first and all I got were drops for the first 3 days. It was so frustrating! Milk started coming in more on the 4th day.

Same here! Not surprised that you don't have any milk yet....takes a while before it comes in!

This happened to me. My milk didn't come until day 6 after my c-section and even when it came in it wasn't a lot, so I had to supplement with formula after day 4 because peds were concerned about weight. Instead of pumping keep putting baby the the breast its the best way to stimulate milk. Good Luck.

When a baby is born their stomach is about the size of a pea with the shell on - they only need a tiny bit. Your milk will come in proportionate to the needs of your baby. Just keep giving him the breast. Even if only a little comes out that is ok.
