What worked for you? I am 3 weeks post pardum and pumping every 2-3 hrs unless DS sleeps longer at night. I am still only getting about 2 oz combined. I put him on the boob sometimes, but because of small nips it doesn't go all that well, even with the shield. HELP! I'm afraid of fenugreek making him gassy, I made the cookies, I drink lots of water.......

It is so frustrating, but keep putting him to the breast. He is probably still working out how to latch, he's so little. The nipple shields really help, although they are a pain.

Is he not latching even with the nipple shields, or just not staying latched for a long time?

I think that at that age though, 2oz per pumping session is great.

ETA: Eat lots of oatmeal and continue to drink lots of water!

He will latch, not that great, plus he got lazy because I was giving him s bottle that wad too easy.for him. I now use a much slower flow bottle. Plus the shield is a PITA and I'm afraid it hurtay supply, but have 2 other kids so Ita hard to pump right after feeding.

I pumped from the beginning. I started pumping every 3 hours (incl over night) and I drank over a gallon of water a day. I am still EP and my DS is 7 months. I am only ahead by 5 feedings still to this day, but I did make it work. Just keep drinking and pumping. Also, remember to get a good amount of sleep, that can really help/hurt your supply.

I was going to say fenugreek and water. We didn't have any gas issues from it (though DD and I smelled a little like maple syrup for awhile).

Skin to skin and keep trying to put the baby on the breast. Latching is a skill that has to be learned; it takes awhile for babies to figure it out. Which kinds of bottles are you using? Make sure they're BFing friendly so that the baby gets used to switching back and forth.

My ped suggested more milk plus tablets (which gave me a bad after taste) and something called " Boobie Tubes" to help bring the milk down.

Re: pumpers or breast feeders that successfully increased their milk

Sounds like you are doing GREAT!!!!
all the things posted above work

Skin to skin
fenugreek (didnt make my girls gassy even though everything else did)
a hoppy Beer (my favorite)
Oats- I ate oatmeal every day for months
water
sleep- this one is the most difficult

Put the baby to breast as much as possible. A baby always does better then a pump. A hospital grade pump is better then the ones you can buy at the stores.

Try to stay away from all the "thanksgiving" herbs. parsley, sage, thyme oregano. there are a few others that I dont remember.

the vitamin shoppe sells a pill that is a bunch of good herbs together, but at 3 weeks PP you shouldn't need that yet

Are you Epumping, or pumping and BFing?

Again, you are doing great!!!

Def try More Milk Plus pills - I swear they increased my supply so much that I had to stop taking them bc I had too much milk!

As other have said, keep putting him to the breast. It took DD like 6 weeks to master the latch (from not latching at all) and we are still BFing at 14 months - now we need to learn to stop!

Good luck!

Re: pumpers or breast feeders that successfully increased their milk

I had supply issues with ds. I ate oatmeal at least once a day and drank Gatorade. If I slacked and didn't then I would notice a drop in supply. I did end up nursing for 14 months. I just had to eat a lot of oatmeal lol

fenugreek
more milk plus (liquid)
lactation cookies
lots of water
oatmeal for breakfast
adding another pumping session (or pumping after you BF)

the combination of all of those helped me!

you're doing all you can. everyone gave great advice. i'd try skin to skin as much as you can too (perfect use of the moby!!). and i'd try to work past the taste of mothers milk tea. i am weird, i actually like it LOL but if you're as determined as i know you are, you can drink it once a day and you'll get used to it.

i was taking calcium pills at one point as well, but i would try one thing (pill) at a time so you know what worked and what isn't kwim?

ETA: fenugreek will help. i promise. you'll smell like syrup, but it will help.
