Pump shield size
I'm not sure if my problem is breast shields that are too big or too small (or maybe this is normal). I had been using the medela medium shields from the start until my LC saw me pumping around 11w pp and told me they were too small and I should get the larges. She said I must have had a high pain tolerance to not have noticed and I would see an increase in pumping output with larger shields and more comfort. I hadn't done a whole lot of pumping by then since I was still on maternity leave and mostly nursed. So I got the larges and have been using them for a couple months and am pumping more often sinc being back to work. It may have been coincidence, but I feel like I've had one side that pumps less since getting large shields. I never noticed a big change in comfort. More recently, I've been getting slight nipple irritation after pumping. Like a ring around the base of the nipple that is getting irritated and red. So, one side doesn't respond as well to pumping and I'm getting irritation. Do I need to go up a size again? I'm confused because the signs of too small or too big seem to be the same when you google...

Re: Pump shield size
My left has always produced a lot less than my right. I've heard that the Pumpin Pals sheilds are more comfortable, but I've never tried them.

Pump shield size
I was told sizes would change over time so it's possible you need another size again-if you're not comfortable you won't pump well so it's worth trying..when I pumped, one side was always a better producer..good luck and feel well

I hated my pumpin pals. I never noticed any more comfort or a better output.
My left always produces at least double compared to my right.

Re: Pump shield size
That sounds to big to me...But I would get one in the size down and compare comfort levels! I needed the smaller size then the standard that came with the medela

Re: Pump shield size
I really liked the pumpin pals. I did have to use two different sizes though, one on each side. My left always produced more then my right so I used a larger one of the left.

I have played around with different sizes, and have done the best with different sizes on each breast. The breast that produces more (which is also the breast DS prefers), gets a bigger shield.
