pump and dump?

we went to a wedding tonight and i had 3 glasses of wine. my mom gave her a bottle at 9:15, we just gave her another now at 12:15 ...do I have to pump and dump or will i be okay for the next feeding?

what time did you go to the wedding, and what time was your last glass of wine?

My lactation consultant told me it was OK to have SOME alcohol and not to worry about pumping and dumping. Unless you got completely hammered - which I can't tell from your post-- I think you're oK.

BUT -- that depends on a couple of other things (your size, how quickly you know your body metabolizes alcohol, how close to your pumping time you last drank, if you ate the full dinner with your three glasses of wine, etc). The book "Womanly art of Breastfeeding" says on average the peak for alcohol in breastmilk is 30-90 minutes after consumption. So I either drink while I'm nursing and then make sure the session lasts less than 30 minutes, or I wait until 90 min. after I've had a drink to nurse DS.

When I was at BRU today I saw alcohol testing kits for breast milk - but I don't know if they work or not - that could be something for you to use in the future?

I think I pumped/dumped maybe 2x in 11 months (once when I ate kielbasa & sauerkraut)

If you are feeling okay (not drunk) & its been a few hours since your last glass of wine I wouldn't worry about dumping. Also drink a lot of water b4 you pump
