Puffy Eyes? What could this be? UPDATED in thread with another question...

DS (24mos) woke up this morning and his eyes were a little puffy - the eyelid and underneath. I thought maybe he was just sleeping on his face. However, they still look puffy tonight and it is more noticeable - one eye is puffier than the other. It's not terrible - looks almost just like he is very tired however, he is frequently very tired Chat Icon and never had this before. Other than that, his eyes themselves look totally normal and they are not bothering him - he is not rubbing them or scratching them and he says they do not hurt.

Could this be the start of something like Pink Eye or Conjunctivitis or would there be symptoms bothering him and in the eye right away? What else could it be? I can't think of anything new he has had to eat in the past few days but we've been out and about and maybe it is possible he ate something new but, he has never had a reaction to food before.

Should I take him to the ped tomorrow if it is the same or only if it is worse? I hate to go and sit in there for no reason and end up sick Chat Icon

TIA!

UPDATE today: Hi Ladies - he woke up this morning and they are not any worse however, the one eye that was more puffy yestersday is less puffy today and now the other eye is more puffy Chat Icon They are still not red inside and have nothing coming out of them and DS still doesn't seem bothered by them but, they are obviously puffy.

Could pink eye take this long to progress into actualy pink eye symptoms?

Should I takke him to the ped?

TIA!

ETA: I am currently almost 23 wks pregnant - is pink eye harmful to me?

It doesn't sound like pink eye. It could be something from food, but i don't know. Also have you changed detergents at all? different dryer sheets?

It sounds, to me, like some kind of allergy.

Sounds like allergies.

If his eyes become goopy or crusty, then I would think pink eye.

Watch him today and tomorrow. If it doesn't improve, or gets worse, bring him to the ped.

I would think that if this were pink eye that you would start to see the goopy discharge coming from the eye.

I can tell you from experience, that one time DS had puffy eyes and it ended up that he had an ear infection! Chat Icon Chat Icon I brought him to the ped and low and behold she told me he had an ear infection. I was shocked! DS didn't have any other symptoms.

You may just want to call over to the ped to see if they want you to bring him in. Chat Icon
