PSA about getting lost in a theme park

I played hookie from work yesterday Chat Icon, and we brought DS and DD to Adventureland. We were there for all of 5 minutes when I saw a little boy (around 7ish) standing by himself in an open area near the little kiddie area. He was hysterical crying, I mean hysterical, tears down his face and everything. I went up to him and asked him if he was ok. He said no, he lost his group. I told him it would be ok, and I was going to bring him to the ticket booth (I pointed to it to show him) and they'll help find his group. He just kept telling me he was lost, pointing to his shirt (of his group) and that he was scared.

He took my hand and we walked him over to the ticket booth to tell the woman inside. She had us bring him around the back to he could stand in the booth while they made an announcement. I kept an eye on the booth to see when someone would come get him, and it took 15 minutes!!! Chat Icon

So, my PSA is, when you enter a park like this, show your children a meeting spot to meet up with you if they are older and they become lost. (My parents used to pick the Ferris wheel at amusement parks.) But also tell your children if they are younger to go to a booth to tell someone they are lost. And lastly, not to leave with strangers from the park!

Re: PSA about getting lost in a theme park

Hershey Park has free wristbands for any DC there. A parent writes their first name and cell number on the band, so if they get lost, staff can cut the band, call the parent, and reunite them.

I've also heard a good piece of advice years ago. When you get to the park, take a pic of DC. That way, if you have to describe DC to someone, you can show a pic of them with what they are wearing and what they look like on that day, instead of trying to describe DC in words.

This is great advice! I could probably buy a pack of those wristbands and use them when we go to a park.

I always take a ton of pics, but good idea to take a pic at the very start of the day.

I always take a picture of my kids when we go somewhere really crowded too.

Another tip is I have a small pet tag with a "if found, please call..." with my cell number & DH's cell number. I have one on my camera & for Disney, we had them on the kids belt loops.

The other thing is I've told my kids to look for another mommy with kids because while security sounds like a good idea, a small child cannot distinguish what a security guard uniform looks like. To me, the Mom network works like a charm. I know I've tracked down 3 kids parents - once in the supermarket, one in PENN STATIONChat Icon & another at the beach. I stayed with the kids until the parent was found.

This is really good advice!

ETA: To the OP: Thank Goodness you were there and were able to help the poor kid out! So Scary!
Finding a meeting place is a good idea too.
My mom always told us to go to the booth and say "I can't find xyz".
