Property Tax Complaint

I live in Westchester. So, DH and I are getting ready to make an offer on this house. My DH calls the tax assessors office to make sure the taxes are correct as listed w/ the realty company (listed as $14,000). Well, aren't they completely wrong! They are $20,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost fell off of my chair!! I guess that is why it's been on the market for almost a year!

yikes- I should call about the house I like

the taxes are $9K with star- which still seem low for the area and the deeded beach rights

The realtor may have included the Star tax, and the current owners may have a senior discount or something like that, which also lowers the taxes. Or, it may have been incorrect!

Does Westchester have a site like mynassauproperty.com? We have been checking that when we like a house, and it does list what the taxes are for the homes. It also provides aerial views of the area, which is great. We liked one house and did not realize some projects were behind it (down a hill and a bit away, but still, something that's good to know).

That's too bad about the taxes--I know that would be a deal breaker for us!
