Prince William and Prince Harry plea not to use photographs of the car crash that killed their mother
The broadcaster insisted it will still show the controversial images on Wednesday night in its documentary about the 1997 accident.
William and Harry's private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton wrote to the channel on their behalf calling for several photos of the crash scene to be removed. They include one of Diana receiving oxygen from a French doctor as she lies dying.
He said the princes believe the use of the pictures is a "gross disrespect" to their mother's memory.
Mr Lowther-Pinkerton wrote: "If it were yours or my mother dying in that tunnel, would we want the scene broadcast to the nation? Indeed, would the nation so want it?"
He added that the images were "redolent with the atmosphere and tragedy of the closing moments of (the princess') life". They would cause the princes "acute distress" and intruded on the "privacy and dignity of her last minutes", he said.
Clarence House said following a lack of response from Channel 4, William and Harry felt they had no choice but to make their feelings public.
Julian Bellamy, head of Channel 4, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the pictures would be used.
"We have weighed the princes' concerns against the legitimate public interest we believe there is in the subject of this documentary and in the still photography it includes," he said.
He stressed it was not the channel's intention to cause William and Harry distress, and no images of the victims of the crash are shown in the film. The photograph showing Dr Frederic Mailliez tending to the Princess has been obscured as it was in previous use.

I just hope the public responds by not watching, but I doubt it.

I think the media intruded enough in that poor woman's life. They shouldnt use the photos out of respect for her, the tragedy that they as a group caused & for her sons.

really what they should have said was
"we have weighed all of the advertisers MONEY in our pockets against the feelings of this poor woman's sons and decided we can be heartless if our coffers are filled"
disgusting and I WON'T be watching.

really what they should have said was

I think its absolutely immoral to show them on TV...however, in the true fashion of "car crash TV" (no pun intended) When its on..I would probably watch it (but knowing my attention span, I would probably get bored halfway through and turn it off)
