Price for a custom framed pic?
I sent DH to Michael's to see about getting a 16x20" wedding pic custom framed.
They have a coupon for 60% off your custom framing order.
The "best" option of a wooden frame with matting, with the discount is about $253.
I have never done this before so I have no idea if that is a good price or not. Is this a normal price for something like that?

Seems normal... my SIL said she was quoted somewhere in the $200s for that as well...
I think its high but i have no frame of reference... (no pun intended)

No. Definitely not.  They have coupons every week and you don't even have to clip them - they have the laminated price sheet at the desk (the one in Bay Shore at least) that includes the 50% off and whatnot.

holy poop!
Did you look in the framing section? Sometimes they do have the right size matting that you can just buy and do it yourself. I did this with some smaller frames.

It is crazy expensive to have that done.
I had 4 pictures I wanted framed. The cost of framing them was close to $1000. I seriously laughed at the guy after I picked my jaw up off the floor. He laughed too because I thought it would be about $200.
Anyway I went to Kohls and found 4 framed pics that were the right size on clearance. I used a razor blade and duct tape and did my own custom framing for less than $50. If you want to do this I can help you.
On a side note I can't believe you trust your dh to decorate. Mine would come home with a Chewbacca frame. I hope sidenotes are listed on the LIF pet peeve thread.

WOW, I had no idea that framing could cost that much money!!! Holy cow! But I think it'll be worth it -- you'll end up loving the pic framed professionally and having it forever!

Okay good -- I'm glad i'm not nuts in being totally  about this price.
DH was NOT understanding me when I kept saying "So she's trying to tell you that the price would normally be $500+?" and he said "I don't know why you keep saying that, the price is $204." DUH Yes I realize this. But that means they originally are trying to charge $500 for the frame job and making us THINK we are getting a deal for $204.

i had a poster that we bought on our HM and it was an odd size, the only option was to custom frame. Our $10 poster was $330 to frame. YEAH RIGHT. Went to Kohls, did exactly as you did.

I know it's beyond pricey to have it done, but can anyone explain WHY it is so much?
Maybe I am being ignorant, but aren't they just putting a photo or whatever on a piece of matting (is that a word?) and slapping on glass and a frame?
What about it makes it so pricey?

sounds about right to me....they framed a double poster of DH's favorite band (it was part of his wedding present) and our seating chart....it came to almost $600!!!

go online and search for a frame that is much larger then you need. then go back to Michaels and have a custom matte made to fit the frame and picture. that's what I did and I think it was $40

I went 2 weeks ago to have my sons newborn picture framed, I had the 60% off coupon and thought I'd be paying maybe $75. When she told me it was $175 I was shocked. I asked her why she said it was the frame
Its so obvious they jack up the price of the frame to make you think your getting a discount
