Presents question

I'm not saying this because I have my hand out for presents...let me get that straight....I'm just venting.

Does anyone have in-laws that don't get you gifts for your birthday and then when their birthdays come around you have to get them gifts because they're your DH's family? I think it's just plain rude. I don't want DH to say...why didn't you get her anything for her birthday. I just think they would remember. My mother always remembers my DH's birthday...Chat Icon

Re: Presents question

With my BIL and SIL definitely!!

I bust my butt trying to find them good presents for every holiday, but they very rarely remember my or DH's birthday and they get us crappy Xmas presents.

It's aggravating. And it makes me not want to get them anything, but I know it will be MY FAULT then.

Re: Presents question

I don't have this problem with my inlaws. But I do have this problem with one of my relatives. We always buy for their children and yet they seem to forget mine and it is upsetting!
I even remind them.

Re: Presents question

YES!! My MIL has NEVER bought me a gift for my birthday (17 bdays since my dh and I met). She actually didn't even send my son a bday gift yet (his bday was in October!). She LITERALLY cries on the phone to my dh if she doesn't get anything for her bday. My MIL and FIL (not together anymore-wonder why??!!) both act like they are 5 years old. They want everyone to do for them and don't think they should recipricate.

MY MIL was always pretty good about my birthday - but forgot it this year. When her bday rolled around she said she no longer wants to do gifts for the adults & only do the kids.

Re: Presents question

actually my sister in law got very creative. She is 31 yrs old, 2 yrs older then me. she decided that since her brother and I are married we should go in 1/3 on presents for her parents. Ya know what...forget it! I can pay it full iwith my husband if i am considered a third. It works out nice for her to lessen her share. I get presents but not the same as what we give.

Re: Presents question

My inlaws are great. I have gotten a gift every year on my bday.
Dh and I shop together for their bdays, usually he chooses the gift and I may "add" a little something.

Re: Presents question

We are both the youngest of 6 -- I don't expect - or get - presents from his family, nor does he from mine.

"We" get present for our parents.

Oh and Christmas -- we give to all 12 of his nieces and nephews and all 8 of mine - $50 GCs each - and we get jack basically....

I have the same issues, Stefanie. My birthday was back in May and I didn't even get a card from any of my ILs, yet my DH and I always have to go out of our way for everyone else's birthday. Chat Icon

Re: Presents question

I never even get a call on my b-day, and it is very expected that we always buy for ILs b-days. My mother always gives Leo a check. I don't receive Christmas presents from them either, which to me is even more wierd. I went for Christmas one year, and everyone had gifts to open except for me. DH felt terrible for me, so we left their house early. I will never spend another Christmas with them again. We were married for 1.5 years, and no one even took a picture of me, they kept asking me to take group shots of the family.

Oh yeah, and even though they can speak English, they don'tChat Icon
