Present for the real estate agent?
Did anyone do this at closing? If so what did you give. We are buying a home and the realtor is the sellers agent.

We didn't, and we were in the same position as you (REA being the seller's agent). He wasn't very helpful to us and made plenty of money from the sale, so we didn't see the need to give him a gift additionally.

We were shocked when our real estate agent gave US a gift at closing! It never occured to me to give one to her.

I wouldn't give a gift, they're getting paid from the sale of the house. It's not like they did you a favor or something.
Not our REA, but our mortgage broker actually gave us a gift at closing.

I have actually gotten a few flower arrangements from buyers - such a nice gesture but totally not necessary! I think it depends on the relationship you have with your agent.

i tend to become friends with my buyers and they get to know me pretty well and vice versa. i usually get a thank you card (and a friend for life  ) and sometimes they'll put in a gift card for a store or restaurant that i like. definitely not necessary but its always appreciated.

we sold our house this summer... and our agent just came over today and gave us a gift! totally unexpected!! especially since she did all the work for us! she gave us a pretty silver serviing bowl and silver serveware....
i kind of feel like maybe we should hvae given her something for all the work she did, but at the same time she got a decent commision, and our house sold in about 2 weeks, so its not like it was a long, drawn out listing and selling process....

I sent our real estate agent a nice edible arrangement. Everyone thought I was crazy b/c of the nice fat commission check she also got. I didnt get anything from her.

Our RE agent is one of DH's so called best friends and I still wouldn't recommend him to anyone or get him a gift....he is making a decent amount of $ off of us and really didn't do much work at all - we found the house.

Absolutely not. They're making a fat commission on the sale of the house.
ETA- and the seller's agent works for the SELLER. She didn't do you any favors. I sure wouldn't get her a gift.

No, I wouldn't give one to the REA, especially if they work for the seller. We were wondering about that for the REA who handled our co-op sale, but we decided the commission was really enough.
