Anyone buy a prenatal monitor in order ot hear the baby's heartbeat?? I know they sell them in motherhood maternity and wondered if they are worth it. Can you actually hear the heartbeat???

Re: prenatal monitors

My friend just gave birth and swears by the heart monitor! She lent it to me but I am way too early to hear the baby's heart beat with it as it says you can start listening at 22 weeks.

My friend says it works really well, she would always listen to her sons heart beat with her DH.

Re: prenatal monitors

You may want to check with your doctor first. Mine was not a fan of them. You are disturbing the baby every time you use it.

Re: prenatal monitors

I heard a few stories of it causing people more worry than anything. Even in my Drs office its not always easy to find the heartbeat, if I tried and couldn't find it I would be panic-ed.

By 20 weeks I was feeling the baby daily so the heart monitor wasnt necessary.

I wouldn't get one. There are reports that the baby is disturbed each time you use one, and I don't want to do that to my child. Also, I have heard of people having trouble finding a heartbeat and freaking out when everything is fine.

As someone else stated, you may begin feeling movement around that time anyway, and that's really all you need.

Re: prenatal monitors

My doctor advised me against buying one.
